Description
Emboar (Guardian Form)
Mountain Boar Pokemon
Type: Fire / Ice
Signature Move: Hot-Cold Rush [Type: Fire; Physical; Power: 50; Accuracy: 90] (The user punches twice, each with fists engulfed with opposing elements. The first blow counts as a Fire type move, the second blow counts as an Ice type move.)
A form of Emboar that called the peak of Mount Lanakila home in ancient times. Its rare combination of fire and ice powers made it a formidable force in the mountain range, earning this species the title of “Vanguard of Ula’ula”. When time called, it is said that these Pokemon fought alongside Tapu Bulu to protect its sacred lands. Emboar’s specialty attack sees it landing two consecutive punches, each infused with flame and ice respectively, which easily caught opponents off guard. Despite this species being the successful mediator of the Pokemon of Ula’ula, it is nowhere to be found in the Alola region of the current times.

Here is the next starter for a hypothetical Legends game taking place in the Alola region! I kept up the theme of the starters being secondary guardians of their respective islands, with this one attributed to Ula’ula.
I really wanted to give my regional Emboar a cool type combination to compensate for its original stance - it really got shafted when it became the 3rd Fire/Fighting starter in a row. I feel really bad for this guy, I love its design but it’s like Game Freak actively wanted people to hate it lol.
Some design notes:
- Unovan Emboar has black fur with imperial patterns as a reference to black belts and body warmers. For this ice type Emboar, I modified this to be shaped like a fur coat, with the new patterns being the same as the ones on Tapu Bulu.
- Some design motifs, such as the “eyebrows”, came from Ku, a Hawaiian deity of war and politics; this is where the “mediator” aspect came from as well.
