Description
Season 1: Quest 2
The newest mission that had been declared by the Pharaohs was that of constructing a new holy place to replace the sacred cave that had been lost long ago. Alukesh was unsure where his place in this mission would be, but then the Pharaoh of the Medjay appointed him to oversee the progress of the mission itself. It would have been a duty for his vizier, however he was in need of her so King Shekah sent Alukesh in her stead. The pharaoh had said that his intelligence and experience in leadership made him a good candidate, despite being rather new to his surroundings. For questions he had Khol of Pride Shemu to ask, who was the crafter in charge of construction, and Grand Seer Hemaka, who checked in frequently to ensure the construction was going according to his vision. All Alukesh would need to do was to observe and report back, and to ensure the Medjay and outsider workers got proper breaks with food and water.
The work began before first light, while the earth was cool and the sun absent. Day in, day out, he was there to watch over the workers, and in time he felt more at ease with his appointed position. The tiger gained a keen eye for dangerous situations and cats who were overworking themselves and in need of rest. Mostly though he observed with curiosity, and often, deep thought.
These cats, these Prides, reminded him so much of the Empire cats he once hunted. He did not see any evilness about them; they worked hard, and often laughed among themselves with jokes and quips he could not hear from his position. He felt a pang of guilt in his past, but felt at ease knowing there was no bounty on the cats he watched over now. No duty to hunt other cats for slavery. No humans to make them suffer. Working with the Medjay, he had seen the similarities and vast differences between them and the Bounty Hunters he had once been a part of.
He had moved his tribe to the city with the promise they would move back to their home in the wild once it became safe to do so; however Alukesh was beginning to think it would not happen. He spied his children in the construction area below; they had mixed and mingled with ease with other felines, and he did not see them wanting to return to their tiny world and leaving their new friends behind. They were adults anyway; they didn’t have to and he couldn’t make them. He wouldn’t. And Alukesh would not wish to leave them should they choose to stay. Perhaps, if King Shekah would have them, they could all join the Medjay, as a family…
