I took this in Santa Monica the other day. I saw this man sitting in front of a store asking people if they could spare some change. I gave him a dollar and asked if I could take his picture. He was very polite and told me I could. I took several and then he turned his head and I caught it at just the right moment. I am so proud of the way this one came out. The cup he is holding says "The wise healer endures the pain. Cry. Tears bring joy." so fitting for this image. Please let me know what you think.(edit: decided to convert this one to duotone. I think it does a better job of capturing the moment. Let me know)

it's hard to find socially-conscious photographers here on dA cuz mostly they're all about pretty colorful photos...thanks for taking off the rosy glasses...this turned out great!
though i would still love to peek at his surroundings (since he was all bulls-eye in the photo), cuz street photography is all about people in their environment.

Holy shit... I know this guy. He's got some great lines, such as "Spare change for an ugly homeless man?" and a bunch of random shit like that. I'm not joking -- I've known him since I was about 11 years old.
