Description
So this lil guy/gal was recently found in a datamine of GO. At first people weren't sure if it was just a placeholder for something else (kecleon since it was in its spot) or if it was a new pokémon (either the teased pokémon in the initial Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee trailer or for gen 8). Fast forward to last night/after midnight and the Pokémon (GO) community goes crazy. This thing started appearing right after the Asia-Pacific region's chikorita community day window closed and was almost everywhere. This brought a new debate: was this a mistake on Niantic's part or was this a tease? We still don't know for sure but the fact that this pattern continued for the other regions for exactly a halfhour after their chikorita community day window closed makes everyone seem to think it was a teaser, even if it ended up just being damage control (a bumped up semi-reveal) for Niantic's mistake.I will say that when I first saw stuff about this pokémon I really didn't think it fit as a pokémon. People can say all they want about inanimate object inspired 'mons, but they still have a Pokémon feel to them; this didn't to me initially. After seeing it animated via ar+ it does feel more like a pokémon. Still feels more like some sort of ultra beast though.
So this thing (we literally have no name for it yet other than question marks) looks to be a metallic ditto body wearing a golden nut with a dark gray orb in the center of it. The nut and orb seem to act like its eye with the orb being its iris and/or pupil. Thanks to the ar+ (or if you get it to do a bow-like headbutt) we can see that it has a tail that looks like a red wire that is cut with the inside exposed on the end (I admit it's hard to see the exposed wires of its tail in this picture; I took a lot more but I brain farted and was taking snaps via screenshots instead of the app's provided camera thus being left with only this picture not having the crosshairs and other displays, however you can see it from behind here ). In this photo it has its head/eye turned to look on its right side before peering on its left. The sad thing is that even when you catch it you'll never have it in this form. It seems to mainly reveal itself as a ditto with less likely odds of turning into a chikorita/kecleon from reports I've seen. Thankfully mine turned into my first ever ditto, but I'll explain why I'm more happy about that next.
This is what I think. First thing I saw when I saw this was a metal ditto wearing a golden nut. Again, did not feel like a pokémon to me, however I like to think that this is an evolution for ditto in gen 8. Not too long ago the Gold and Silver beta pokémon sprites were discovered. In it ditto was to have an evolution (however it looked nothing like this). The ditto evolution seemed to be the result of involving a metal coat and that makes it seem like it could have been steel type, and to me this makes sense because ditto has a link to metal via his signature powder items. Now granted the metal powder could just be named based on doubling an untransformed ditto's defense (high def being like metal hard), but I like to think both metal and quick powders are metallic powder. Tbh though I found it weird for ditto to evolve because it seems unneeded, however my hope for a steel type ditto evolution would be to basically be the same as ditto but add the steel typing to anything that it transforms into that doesn't already have it (think pumpkaboo/gourgeist's trick-or-treat or phantump/trevenant's forest curse). I also have thoughts that maybe these are missingno.. It also makes sense when comparing these with missingno.; their out-there look, the transforming (which could relate to how missingno. can become other pokémon) etc. Maybe this is the pokémon you get from sending something from LGP/E and what you send over is a missingno..
Pokémon GO ar photo taken 9/22/18. Do not use my photo without my permission.
EDIT: As of 9/25/18 we now know that this is a new mythical steel type pokémon known as meltan.

This looks quite weirder than Unown or Ultra Beasts in Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon.

Just finished sculpting my model of Meltan! You can check out my very rough images in my gallery. I’ll probably upload better images once there is enough natural light (i.e. day).

Yea, it's clearly a huge golden hardware nut as a head/eye. There's something about magnemite and magneton that makes it work at utilizing inanimate objects and still feel like a unique thing, but I don't feel the same way here. But like I said, after seeing it animate in the game it did feel more alive and like a pokémon.

Wow, XD.
Still weirder than a Klinklang or a Kartana, at best.
Maybe it's the MissingNo or just another glitch.

Could you post any pictures of the pokemon’s back (specifically showing the tail)? I don’t mind the crosshairs, and I didn’t take any pics of the back. I need the pics for reference so I can make a sculpture. That would be great! Thanks.

You're welcome. Let me know when it's done, curious to see it.
Also well made little sculptures btw.

I'd love to take a Pokémon request! Just don't expect promptness. I basically do art when I have time (the last time I sculpted was in June--wow, that's a long time).
If you do make a request, expect the finished (that is, sculpted and cured) submission to appear in my gallery sometime in the next six months if I'm being pessimistic.

Believe me, I totally get that and understand.
Hmm, would unique pokémon (off the top of my head like a shiny elgyem except with regular elgyem's hand lights just as an example) or digimon be eligible?

Probably not digimon because I'm not too familiar with the franchise, but I'd certainly be open to doing slight color modifications if you provide me with the color-changed references (front and back, please).
Just not anything super wild like a bright blue [uhhhh...Krookodile, as an example] with [x, y, and z] features in [a, b, and c] colors that would be very far off from the Pokémon's canonical colors (whether shiny or not). But your Elgyem example with a canonical shiny base and slight detail modifications would be alright in my book. Guess that last part's just personal preference for me. (Now, on the other hand, if there's a canonical reference for an unusual color scheme, like the pink Celebi in PMD: Explorers of Time/Space/Sky, that's different). This got a little long.
Tl;dr: ask me first, and I'll see whether I'm open for it.

I think I get it. Would a mr mime (I think a small sculpture of mr mime would look cute) be doable along with a egg shell piece/shard of the gift eggs from Pokémon GO that look like this ?

Hmmm so you're asking if I could make a sculpture of a Mr. Mime that just hatched out of one of the Kanto event's special 7kms? I've never made a Mr. Mime before (no time like the present!), and due to its lack of supports it would need to stand on a base, but aside from that, it's definitely doable. I work small anyway (about 1"-2"), so that should help a bit with stability.
Timing: you'll have to wait probably several months. I'm about to embark on a Pokémon-themed Inktober challenge (using the 2018 Inktober prompts) in a few days, so I imagine that and my regular workload will keep me occupied for a long while.
I'll make sure your request gets in the cue, though.

Yep, it's honestly been a quested 'mon for me since the beginning so this whole event been trying to hatch it (which is also the ideal way I wanted to hatch one because a hatched mr mime being doable reminds me of the chibi one in the Pikachu Vacation short before the first Pokémon movie ), but I've hatched everything but.
Thanks, and I totally understand. I'll look forward to that and to meltan!

Thanks. I was glad to hear that and then I finally hatched it the last day from eggs obtained before the original end date so if we didn't get an extension I still would have hatched it.
