I'm thinking something desert-themed, since I live in a desert and I can definitely see some of these lil dudes planting juniper trees/sagebrush!
I'll leave most of it to your artistic freedom since I know whatever you make will be great. I would like it if it had a short, fluffy tail though.

They look super cute and toony!
Maybe they are toon based guardians? they could represent that child like curiosity that comes with exploring the woods and playing in forests! They don't follow the logic of the real world, instead they follow cartoon logic!
Lots of fun zany gags and tricks! You know how in old cartoons characters could pull large hammers or fun objects out of no where? That sort of thing!
They could be playful lil critters that embody all the fun of imagination and exploring! <3 Can't wait to see what you do with these adorable lil pups!

heck i have great want for one that is fluffy and has wings but also great want for fluffy with tentacles aklagfasfgas
HHNNNNNNG
okay so fluff child with tentacles, have good long soft fluff hair but like 2-4 tentacles somewhere on the head/connected to the neck
give a long ribbon ish tail with the star butt fluff, toss in some 'whiskers' (think like this guy: Burn hint they are white but make the ones on mine black) on the butt and maybe head
throw some fluff around until he looks good ;^)
as for colors... i dont have the pallets ready and i gotta go to sleep because i got works so here sort of guide?
main color: white
markings: soft pastel pinks and blues
accents/freckles/tips/points: black
eyes/innards: magenta (like this: This )
extra maybe colors: try some soft creamy yellows with the pinks and blues
other: MAKE HIM HAVE THE WHITE SPARKLES, GLITTER SON
