yeah they all started claiming that Rush was a terrible, terrible game once a meme-spouting Sega of America blog PR guy wrote a pretentious rant about the older games where he demonized the boost as going against the "truth of the old Sonic games" so now a lot of people hate Dimps now (he clearly knew very little about Project Needlemouse, he probably didn't even know they were developing it so he shot himself in the foot there), plus there is also this dumb video [link]
and everyone seems to be convinced that the Wii version of Unleashed was utterly terrible and aimed at children and casual gamers (unlike the other one supposedly), daytime levels included, and that the 360/PS3 version was a real challenge aimed at true gamers so reviewers only hated it because they are casual scum who love easy games
but screw them, I'm still looking forward to Sonic 4

Honestly, I always liked the boost. I saw it as like... just a natural evolution of The Spin-dash and rolling as an attack... But either way the new footage of Sonic 4 looks closer to sonic 2 physics wise than anything else... God damn it that video pisses me off. You can do Just as much, if not MORE dumb shit with the physics in the old games. Hell, you can exploit the physics of damn near any game and get stupid results...
As for Unleashed, I only played the PS3 version, which I thoroughly enjoyed, so i can't say much about the Wii/PS2 version.

All this anger over a cartoon hedgehog being a little taller, and having green eyes. And no one seems to realize that one of the reasons the games continue to suck might have something to do with the fact that everyone hot glued Nostalgia Goggles over their eyes, and get all butthurt when a Sonic game is released that isn't Sonic 3 down to the last pixel.
I guess I can't mock too much. I'm not too proud to admit that I reached ABANDONING SEGA 4-EVA levels before Unleashed was released.

And yeah.. pre-Unleashed we had.. that 2006 Sonic game.. and WOW that one was just bad... I like how not only was Unleashed AWESOME, but also like.. the polar opposite of that pile of crap.

This is the most brilliant thing ever and sums up my thoughts as well. Seriously, Sonic 4 is probably gonna be the best thing for the franchise since SA1/2 (oh yes, I just implied I liked the Dreamcast-era games. They were far from perfect, but they were fun... and in the end, that's what a game's supposed to be.)
Plus,the two seconds of footage really, really seemed to be lifted from Sonic 2 in its style, which was the best Sonic game ever, so wouldn't that be a good thing?

My personal fav out of the two Adventure games was actually SA2, the thing ran so smooth, Shadow was a cool, fresh character back then (I really don't hold a 'grudge' against him the way some people do, I just ignore... well... anything past SA2) and I loved playing as Dr. Robotnik so I could hear him manically cackle every time I blew up a shitton of enemies. Plus, points/trick/ranking system.
[BROFISTs] Yes! Sonic 2 is the one I played into the ground! It's not the Green Hill theme that takes me back, it's the Emerald Hill one. S3&K was pretty cool, due to the save files and that you could get the seizure-inducing Hyper Sonic... but still, Sonic 2.

SA2 was definitely awesome too, but I find I like the atmosphere of the first one better overall. Shadow I don't have much of a problem with, and in SA2 he was pretty fucking awesome. He was totally the Vegeta of the series. and FUCK YES. I loved playing as Robotnik. I LOVED the enemies and bosses in the genesis Sonic games when I was a kid, so finally being able to play AS the Doctor himself was like a dream come true. Though I was a little sad
you never got to do a boss fight against Sonic as him... and FFFFF DAT LAUGHTER.
Sonic 2 just.. something about it makes it stand out more...

SA1 did have a flavor all its own that you couldn't find in another Sonic game, plus fighting Perfect Chaos (which is actually where my online handle comes from, lol) was awesome (shame you have to wade through 15 minutes of unskippable cutscenes to fight him, or else I would've done it a lot more)
Sonic 2's strength is the quintessential game of the series, and all others after it are trying to replicate it. It's perhaps the best case of lighting-in-a-bottle, SEGA created a near-perfect game.
As a teen, I hung out at a (relatively) large Sonic fansite, and I drew Shadow and Metal Sonic a lot. I also made, ugh... fancharacters. [shudders]

Perfect Chaos was an awesome final boss, even if he was EASY MODO, the atmosphere and the sheer feeling of AWESOME just really made it. And Wait Unskippabe cut-scenes? Every version I've played they are skippable. Doesn't change the fact you have to hike about the Mystic Ruins each damn time though.
I honestly think that's it with Sonic 2. They really perfected the formula with that one.

SA2 had skippable cutscenes, SA1 did not. At least in the original Dreamcast version, I don't know if they made them skippable in the GCN edition.
Perfect Chaos was indeed epic, especially when the music changed. I liked the Final Hazard in SA2 (it's IN SPAAAAAAAACE!), but it's no contest against Perfect Chaos
Luckily, I got out of the whole Sonic fandom, right before it got all super negative and more or less turned into some sort of negafandom comprised of people who hated everything Sonic.... The super-sad thing about 'modern' fandom is now they call fancharacters "original characters"... which makes me want to smash my head into something, because a character made for a fanfic is not 'original' in the least D:

You sure about that? We brought out the Dreamcast 9/9/09 for the 10th anniversary. We played through Sonic's and Knuckle's story and skipped almost all the cut-scenes because the disc was fucked up and we couldn't deal with the choppy audio. Then again it was a re-release of the game rather than the first print, so that may be it... And yeah the Gamecube, PC, and hacked Mac versions of DX they are all skippable.
Both Adventure games had REALLY good final boss fights, but again, I think it's like.. Sonic 2 vs Sonic 3. Perfect Chaos stands out more because Final Hazard was just Playing off of Perfect Chaos. Though both were FUCKING AMAZING.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure. Last summer I had some weird seizure-related medical test that required me to stay up for 24 hours straight, I decided to marathon SA1 from the start to finish, and gave up after 3-4 hours because I couldn't skip the cutscenes and Amy's voice is nails on chalkboard.

Well, Sega is heading in the right direction with this game. I was a little disappointing that sonic and robotnik have there current look,instead of there old look,but that something I can easily overlook. In the time being, I'm just going to keep an eye on it and wait on the reveiws.

The episodes are complete games. Episodic games are becoming rather popular these days as downloadable content, but that doesn't really mean it's one game broken into pieces. Rather it's several games that are part of one series. Episode 2 will essentially be Sonic the Hedgehog 5.
As for why they decided to call them episodes other than games, I have no idea.

Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles alone are really good, stand-alone games, but together as SONIC 3 AND KNUCKLES they become THE GRAND GLORIOUS GENESIS GAME. And if the 'Episodes' are any thing like that, well then FUCK YEAH, MOTHERFUCKER!
