Foul-tempered, sarcastic and constantly seeing the world as glass half (HA!) full, there was a time when Mithrandir was once the devoted partner Pokemon of a psychic woman who was part of a roadside travelling troupe, with whom he lived a relatively simple but contented life of moving from one town to another and putting on shows for the local populace. Things changed for them violently and abruptly when their encampment at a forest's edge was suddenly under siege from Shadow Pokemon which had been released by a mysterious group in purple a week ago.
Having been kept in captivity for months and experimented upon, the addled, newly-Shadowed Pokemon who were not native to the area had a hard time hunting local prey which easily avoided them despite their heightened senses and aggresion and so they turned their attention to the human camp instead, having learned that people often meant food and in the absence of that, people were food.
In the attack, Mithrandir was bitten while fending the Pokemon off the children in the troupe, but protecting them for a precious few minutes costed him dearly as he was too late to save his partner from an Ursaring which maimed her horrifically.
In a wild panic, he tried to fix her body with his magic as she was dying and when it was clear normal healing spells would not suffice, he sought a more drastic course of action and performed blood magic to transfer part of his life force to her.
This however, incurred him the wrath of Giratina who demanded he stop and allow them to do their job, to which he refused, swearing to give up whatever it took to keep her alive, even if it meant 'half of him' because that was what she was to him. Giratina decided to "teach him a lesson", about defying death and next thing he knew, he was throwing up blood and in a world of pain before passing out.
When he woke up in the PMC under Rhames' care without his partner by his side, he raised hell until Ozymandias helped Rhames deduce that he was worried about the condition of the woman he had been found with.....except they had no record of a woman found with him, much to his despair.
Said despair turned into cold fury as he was then told what had happened to him, that he could no longer survive without human intervention because Giratina took his words literally and maimed him for his insolence, and so he found himself agreeing to stay with Rhames when asked.
If only so he could stay alive and figure out how to beat Death at their own game.

- Missing his right lung, right kidney and parts of his intestines from his awry attempt at bringing his dead human partner (who he considered his 'other half) back to life with blood magic.
- The missing lung and kidney do not impact him greatly save an aversion to strenuous activities. However, he suffers from moderate short bowel syndrome due to said missing intestines and is on a special diet on good days, and on intravenous feeding on bad days.
- The pouches on his belt hold medicinal herbs, a variety of vitamin supplements due to his high risk for nutritional deficiencies and oral rehydration salts for when he forgets he's got A Condition. Which is often.
- Throws up when stressed due to above health issues, will hex you once he's done hurking if you laugh.
- Never ask to see a magic trick. Don't do it.
- If magic don't work, will bludgeon with big stick.
- Wants to get in a fistfight with Giratina.
- What he doesn't realise is that his former partner, broken almost beyond recognition is still alive, barely, and unable to die----locked in a limbo because of the blood magic used in trying to save her, blood magic only he can remove. She's currently being held in a private hospital where doctors are attempting to understand the phenomenon.
