OMG IT'S DONE! D:I don't know if any of you guys have any idea ('cept maybe Keyo) of how much energy I had to put into this guy, how long it took, and HOW DAMN SICK I AM OF IT!!!! *eats her madeline*
So yeah. I'm done. The gun is probably inaccurate based on it's a sniper... and snipers don't use M16s. But M16s are easier to figure out how to draw from profile images than other weapons so... I drew an M16.
I absolutely LOVE this one. =3 Even if I'm tired of working on it, I still love some pieces. This is going to be given to my history teacher from last year, Dr. Hoppes. We covered loads on the Vietnam War - my inspiration for this piece. =3
As I had said before in my journal (and don't take me as boasting or arrogant - I'm trying not to be) I would rather hear the questions that pop into your head about what's happening rather than how I did it. Please. D: Wolfy wants critique on her ideas instead of skills (that's what an AP Art class is for - and they like to pick it apart!).
Hope you enjoy it. Maybe one day I'll make prints... hmm... that's an idea... >_>
btw... you can download the original size if you really want to. But kudos to me please!

I was using only a few photos of M16s online that weren't at the right angle and then trying to match it to the sniper air-soft rifle my friend was holding. :/
Thanks though.

your welcome. You almost nailed it, but In Vietnam (which is the era your soldier is from in the picture) they had M16 A1 models, and a carry handle rear sight, plus the front sight is raised in a triangle. I love the details you put into it though.

Thanks. To be honest, I didn't draw all of the details so that may be why it looks off. I did my best for not having the actual weapon for reference. :3

well, anyway LOOK LIKE AN M14 in all it s particularities ( and M14 was the main rifle in early-vietnam war, after M16 came standard M14 became Sniper Rifle as today )

It's good that you've posted it up here. Don't you feel glad that you've accomplished this? : D
Your mention of madelines still make me hungry though. BTW... The thumbnail still creeps me out to no end. o-o

I wanna a few things: Is there a story behind this picture? Who is he? Who exactly is he shooting at (or about to shoot at)? Story, Volfy! STORY! You always have a story for everything you draw...

Oniwolf12 In reply to LadyBandit [2007-10-24 23:18:20 +0000 UTC]
I do... but what's funny is that I don't know the story behind this one! D: *le gasp* I think that's what got me to realize that barely any of my friends ask about meanings/stories/background on my art. =/ It's funny how that happens.
But I think there is a story behind it... I just don't know it. This one, though, just feels like it is a simple one. (simple as in it doesn't have the complex never-ending feel that my others have) I kinda want people to come up with their own story for it... something that personalizes this piece for themselves.

Okay, I'm going to ask about the ace of spades in the helmet. Why is it there? If you're gonna ask me to think about it, sorry, not gonna happen. I have 44 more pictures to look through. But I really am curious.

Oooohhhh, ace of spades, how interesting! During my senior year of high school, my teacher showed us a war film that took place in Cambodia, and there was this one high ranking character with playing cards. That's what the ace of spades remind me of. But if I were to digest the meaning behind this, I would say it has something to do with rank?
What is actually the story behind the card?

In WW2, you see guys with cigarettes on their helmets. In the Vietnam War, ace shooters would put ace cards on their helmet. =3 I saw it on a old photo of a kid who couldn't be older than 18 and thought "hmm... interesting".
