I actually once talked to our dear ~idollisimo and from his words I now thought a very nice thing: at some point we have to stop worrying what others do. You can be influenced by someone else's work: either you copy that work or you have NOT to copy it, but in some way you're dependent from that someone. And we have to gain something, but in the same time we DO NOT MIND. He has his own way, we have ours. Sometimes they cross, sometimes they do not cross, but the idea is to do things freely.

And that's one of the benefits not being in Huumakuva. Idollisimo is right, of course. I do my own thing on DA, I am planning to apply my own rules to the site I am now working on. But right now my main goal is to be on about the same level(or at least close) as the other Huumakuva guys. Plus I have to obey certain guidelines... for instance, I was already asked once to desaturate my pics more. So as long as this is my goal I will prefer to stay influenced but try no to copy. Once I realize I am getting close, I can as well do something else with my work.
And I am not saying I would not ever wanna copy anything.. my point is more - not the same edit for the same band from the same gig.

Actually latest ones of HK that you have posted (today?) are really overloaded with color.
What I do not like about HK that in fact there are only very photoshopped pics. I can not believe that classical black and white, a good real-life pics and something not so very photoshopped can not be there. This is a major problem, the whole website looks the same. If Kalle want to be a stock image agency, he needs some diversity. But for now you can benefit by learning tips form Kalle, just remember that there are other ways of procession. Speaking of which, to introduce some original processing, you first need to learn it, to become an expert of photoshop...

When was today actually? Hmm, weird I just checked all my latest uploads and they're white in faces. Which browser are you on?
Well Mia, Kari and I post stuff that's not as heavily photoshopped, and we haven't yet been thrown out. Also take a look at Kalle's pics of Tarja Turunen. I think it's more about what suits most shots.
In my case the clarity also makes up a lot for the soft focus of my Sigma lens

I can actually judge from RSS feed of HK that I exported to livejournal. It all goes the same way - contrast, desaturated and so on. You can just visit [link] and you immediately notice how similar is the processing of many shots.

Well I'd still say she doesn't do it as much as Kalle or Markus, don't you? And btw, I noticed my dear friends Toni and Henkka who do most of the camera work at fests for the big screens seem to do the same sort of processing to their videostream. And same in quite a bunch of movies... it's a fashion now. I definitely don't like that grunge texture trend going on right now, btw.

I still believe that one shall learn all possible processing. When you can choose not from one or two, but from a dozen, then you have learned something. I now gonna learn what this guy [link] does to pics.

Sure thing! And I know what the guy does to those pics. I will give you a hint - first of all, you can do this sort of thing only if you shoot on low ISO and there's wraparound light (daylight or multiple studio lamps)or else it won't look good. Also crucial to get the exposure exactly right or that processing won't work.

Thanks! So little attention comparing to Dimmu Borgir, but I know this set of FOTN is great ) take a look [link]

CaroFiresoul In reply to onkami [2008-07-21 09:32:01 +0000 UTC]
woooow they all look great really!
dimmu just draw attention cause they are more famous, sometimes I think that the top pics in the concert section are related more to the fame of a band than to the quality of the pic its not always like that but there are some bands that just always appear on top even if the pics are crap

onkami In reply to CaroFiresoul [2008-07-21 21:40:31 +0000 UTC]
Well I spend few hours processing them, do not want to lost to other photographers!
I do not know what to do with these pageviews. I shall know that I am good or not without them, but I can not stop comparing to others...
