Okay, since Alan Rickman passed
recasting Frollo with a "modern" actor has been a bitch especially since I'm expanding his role to be Gabrielle's "Latin teacher" which is really a decoy for her to see Quasi.... I digress... ! While Jacobi isn't exactly this young anymore, he HAS been the closest Frollo to the book which gives me more to work withA lot of twists with him, I'm excited to see how he developes both in and out of an RP I'm doing. I don't think I necessarily want him dead. I think I want him as a science teacher eventually in Storybrook, befriended by Mary-Margaret on her "everyone is worthy of a second chance" kicker, making some really awkward and tense moments for a very pissed off Gabrielle... I might even have him date Regina for awhile, which obviously can't work out because she belongs to Robin and his deluded heart still lies elsewhere too...
He does bash the Cardinal in the head with a rock though, which we all will be grateful for....

Frollo in the book is a lot more sympathetic. Among other things i appreciated about the complexities of his character, aside from the unfamiliar/scary lust for Esmeralda (for both parties), I liked that he adopted Quasimodo out of pure kindness, not out of obligation/attempting to hide an unforgivable sin. He may be hyper-conservative, but his crisis of faith and of ingrained beliefs versus ever-evolving reality is relatable to older audiences.

I'm going to use book Frollo in my fanfic, it will serve me better since I already have a sadistic, power-hungry Cardinal, I really don't need another sadistic holy man as much as I need an antagonist that has many sides like Rumpel and Regina. I have to admit, some of the passages Hugo writes on The Dom are actually heartbreaking, my dad put it best "your sympathy for him is that he wants to be loved, but his choice of career and methods are all wrong".

Hmm... sounds a bit like how I originally viewed Zelena before I discovered that her giving into her jealousy and her inherent desire to hurt others for crimes against her made her... hard to give a second chance. If I were in her place, I can't say I would have been the bigger woman and NOT come back to hurt Rumpelstiltskin (A lot of people want to hurt him for using and abusing them, but Zelena is a particularly bad case.) for choosing my lackluster sister over my obvious talent; I have faced similar issues with feeling "never good enough, despite obvious brilliance" and being "the one to break my parents in" for my Autistic younger sister all of my life, even as an adult. That's right, I could empathize with Zelena because of our mutual anger over being neglected for our younger, needy, less talented siblings, whose only crime against us was that they were born.

Sounds like Gabby's situation with Snow too. Though that's not quite why Gabby ends up hating her sister, they have some words before the curse and Sophia's death that Gabby finds unforgivable
