Description Ky and Sol from Guilty Gear, both in their "respect" poses (Guilty Gear's "that was pretty good" taunt.)

Credit for the original idea goes out to my brilliant friend who showed me the original idea for this a year ago.
The idea behind this peice is that it would eventually be a poster, or maybe a wall scroll. It's sort of like an inspirational poster, right?

I really could use some heavy critique, if I do commit this to paper I want it to be absolutely perfect.

Everything, including the enhanced vector versions of the character sprites, was done in Inkscape 0.44 a free-and-open source vector image editor with Windows, Mac and Linux versions. I made this image with Inkscape on Ubuntu Linux.

Edit: Reduced image size. Oops.

This is quite amazing, even for something so simple. I'd definitely hang this up on a wall in my room.

Your shading is top notch--maybe if I get to play around in that vector program more, I'll get the hang of it? Also, is Inkscape difficult to use?

My bad, maybe I should check my comments more! I got the soft shading by using shapes with gradient fills. I made a basic outline shape with a flat fill first. Then I copy that outline shape, remove the stroke and change the fill to be a different color with a gradient that has solid color but a fading transparency. Depending on the shading I want to do this will be either a elliptical or linear gradient (usually the former with Sol, the latter with Ky). Most portions of the characters have 3 or 4 of these layers to build up whatever weird shape I needed to get the smooth shading.

I know this is quite old, but I thought I'd share this info - after all OS is all about sharing, right?

About shading, you might benifit from using a trick like this: [link]
Getting the smooth transissions is vital to making it look good - at least that's how I see it.

Enjoy !

I would if prints accounts didn't cost 35 dollars man. I'll note you if I make a poster on Cafepress though. Know of any poster-on-demand sites?

well usually you can go into camera shops around town and they'll do any size print for a reasonable cost, but then you've got to sell it yourself. I don't know of any other than cafepress.
