Description
So here's the thing - these aren't new. I've had them made for some time but didn't feel comfortable showing them yet due to many, many, many pet peeves I had with their outfits. There's also the issue with the hair and yes, before anyone says anything - I know Saban Moon's bangs aren't right. I tried ok? This is the only thing that would work with that particular hairstyle without making the textures look messed all to hell. So this is what we got. Now, that out of the way, let's get right into it.
I know Sailor Moon purists will say that Saban Moon is an abomination of the series and I agree! That said, I adore the outfit design because it's unique but stays close enough to the original design to be charming. Is it basically copying with creative liberties? Not touching that. But I will say the Saban senshi are eye-catching enough even without going into their overall designs. Saban Moon however I'm in love with. Don't get me wrong, I love Usagi's odango design but long wavy hair is just beautiful to me. It's why I love Sailor Neptune so much, aside from the fact she's a total badass
And speaking of which... I can't get over how awesome Saban Neptune's design came out. She's using pieces from an earlier attempt at Saban Venus (work in progress, mothballed, etc.) but the textures all came out wrong. It was just hideous. But here? Fabulous doesn't even begin to cover it. The dark hair and skin as well as the amber eyes somehow manage to bring out Neptune's color pallet in ways even she can't, I'm sorry. She's just... so cool. I'm actually kinda pissed there's not a single bit of artwork regarding the Outer Saban Senshi anywhere, but maybe that'll change with time. Though I have to say, out of all of the otaku senshi I've created, this is who I'm in love with. Even my baby Roux seems to pale in comparison to her.
Making these girls was a bit of a pain, especially on Saban Moon's part. That was a from the ground up design with many sequences of trial and error. For instance, her shoulder guards. Had to go through about 20 different accessories before I finally got a design that looked half-ass decent - still not completely ok with it though. The brooch came next and, considering there's not really a concrete - or hell even visually acceptable reference for that, I had to go by a few different fan art interpretations. I suppose it's fine, but I wish it could've been better visually. Oh well. And as for footwear, with Moon it was a creative liberty since I wanted her to stand out from Usagi's design, hence the one heel/boot decision; as for Neptune, she's using heels from the Kasumi Yoshizawa character mod made by Evaan while the laces are a texture overlay by me.
Like I said up top, these girls aren't new. I've got a batch of characters I made last year that I've been meaning to share on here but was too worried about pissing off some creators. Now I'm willing to take the risk, provided I explicitly state which things are mine and not mine.
Oh, one more thing: I'm not done. In the days ahead, expect many more otaku senshi recreations from me. I've been busy so I've got plenty to show you guys. Look forward to it!
And without further ado, our honorable mentions:
Mods (most of them) belong to bhsdesk (none of this would've been possible without his work; thank you again for giving me the tools to bring these girls to life and for providing encouraging feedback)
Neptune's shoes belong to Evaan. Check out his page for more awesome stuff.
