Wow, I have a Canon eos rebel ex too (a.k.a. the 1000d) so we have the same camera, right? And even with its 55mm lens it can't get that, how'd you do it?

you have to remove the lens, turn it around and hold it to the camera to get a macro effect
there's also a tutorial about it, but I just didn't find it right now
