Description
Rough Scaled Python, Morelia carinataThis is an extremely rare animal and the only one in the world outside of Australia's borders. Hell, even inside australia its very rare. Its a Morelia species, related to Carpet pythons, Boelens pythons and very closely related to th Green Tree Pythons. Found only in a tiny location in northern australia, it lives amongst rocks and cliffs.
I was very privileged to have this opportunity.

Great photo of a very beautiful python. I love their bluish eyes, although I have never seen one in person. Yes, they are rare here in Aust.

Reptile Gardens in South Dakota. I'm pretty good friends with the curator so he let me fart around the zoo after hours. As for owning one, I wish. His are the only ones in the world outside of Australia, and he's under strict contract to never let any leave his possession.

My friend Terry is curator of the Reptile Gardens in South Dakota. He's one of the few people in the world who has managed to develop good standing with the Australian government, get all the necessary paperwork and whatnot, to import animals. Through zoo trades of coarse. It started with "Maniac", a 16 somethin foot Saltwater crocodile that he rescued from a zoo that went out of business. Then of coarse he started working on the Roughies. He has pretty much every aussie native elapid too.
He'll be getting Fiji Island Iguanas in a few weeks.. I was supposed to make another trip over to chill with him and get to photograph the new iguanas, but doesn't look like its gunna happen this year. Poop.

awesome...I've never seen one of these before, but it caught my eye. I thought it looked like a carpet, but the scales were different. Very cool. How'd you get the opportunity to photograph this guy, or are you lucky enough to own him?
