I'm pretty happy with how it came out, background excluded.
I'm starting to like painting on one layer- it makes for smaller files and after the preliminary frustration it's pretty damn fun, I think.
Finished during break but I had to wait so everyone could exchange c:

I can't help but think the background looks too... impressionist, compared to the rest of the picture, but I'm sure happy you like it!
for references, I checked out some shots of the big Fuu dog statues in China- not so much for the face but for the overall design.
