You stared out the window and sighed. It was three minutes until the last bell of the day and you couldn’t wait to get home. It had been two weeks since Rin had kissed you before you were dropped off at school. Nothing much had happened since then. But it seemed like something was about to happen.

Doodles had texted you during lunch break and had given you a cryptic message. You pulled your phone out of your pocket and checked the message again.

~~Come home ASAP. Something’s going on. ~~

It made no sense, especially for Doodles. She almost always went into lengthy explanations for everything. You drummed your fingers on top of your desk and sighed. The clock hand slowly, ever so slowly inched forward to the four o’ clock mark.

Three…

Two…

One…

The intercom binged and the voice of your principal came over the line.

~Good afternoon students and staff, there are no afternoon announcements. At this time all students are dismissed.~

You practically shot out of your seat and out the door, nearly flattening the students who stood in your way. You speed walked down the hall (running is not tolerated) as fast as you could. You clutched your books tightly to your chest and kept your head down as you waded through the crowd.

That was probably why you didn’t see the person coming the other way. You smacked into someone and all your papers went flying.

“Oh drat!” You cried as you scrambled to collect everything you had dropped. People swerved to keep from stepping on your stuff, but some gave you dirty looks as they did so.

“Sorry, I didn’t see you there! Here, let me help.” The person who you had collided with said as he knelt down and began to collect the papers you hadn’t picked up yet.

“Oh no, it’s all my fault. I’m so sorry.” You said as you quickly gathered up the rest of your stuff from the floor. You glanced up at who it was and your eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

“RIN????” You asked in astounded amazement. Rin grinned at you and handed you the rest of your papers.

“The one and only.” He said as he offered you a hand up.

“But- How-When- Huh?” You sputtered as he helped you up. Rin smiled somewhat sheepishly.

“What are you doing here?” You finally managed to ask. Rin looked down at his feet and mumbled something unintelligible.

“Speak louder and look at me when you’re talking to me Rin. Elsewise I can’t understand you silly.” You said with a laugh. Rin sighed and looked you in the eye with his breathtaking lighting blue eyes.

“I’m now en-“ Doodles tackled Rin from behind.

“He’s now enrolled here ______!” Doodles grinned up at you and then began to give Rin a noogie, “As for you” Doodles glared down at Rin. “It was supposed to be a surprise.”

Rin winced and then he quickly managed to break Doodles’ hold on him. He’d gotten better at doing that the past couple weeks. It seemed like your best friend couldn’t get enough of teasing him.

“Sorry. It’s just,” Rin ran a hand through his hair and sighed. “she was right there and asking for an explanation. What could I do? Lie?”

Doodles made a face and stuck out her tongue.

“No, but you could at least have said something like ‘Oh, I’m on an errand for Monty or Doodles. They wanted me to drop something off at the school.’ Really? It isn’t that hard to think of an excuse.” Doodles put her hands on her hips and glared at Rin.

“Will you two ever get along?” You asked. Rin and Doodles looked over at you.

“Why in the world would we ever do that?” They both said at the same time. You grinned and shook your head in exasperation, your anger and frustration forgotten.

“Now, Monty should be waiting at the school front for all of us. He’s got Da Beast ready.” Doodles said cheerfully.

“We going anywhere in particular?” You asked as the three of you walked through the school out to the front where Monty was waiting.

“Oh, you’ll see.” Doodles said with a devilish grin. But no matter how hard you pleaded or begged she didn’t tell you anymore.

Monty was waiting patiently for you all in the school parking lot. He was leaning casually against Da Beast with his eyes closed and had his headphones on. Doodles put a finger to her lips and began to sneak over to where Monty was chilling.

With a roar, Doodles leapt over the front of the car and tried to tackle Monty.

And with a well-practiced turn, Monty spun on his heal and caught Doodles around the waist. Doodles let out a surprised squeak as Monty held her for a moment. Monty opened his eyes and gave her a devilish grin.

“Little sneak.” He said laughingly.

“You monster!” Doodles replied with a squeal as Monty began to tickle her. “Put me down!” But she said it all with a smile on her face, and you knew that she was just joking around.

“Oh! I’m a monster am I?” Monty stopped tickling Doodles and set her down on the ground.

“Yes! The worst kind!” Doodles said.

“Oh? And what kind would that be?” Monty asked, eyebrows raised, a wicked grin on his face.

“The kind that steals hearts!” Doodles replied. Monty laughed.

“Oh really? I’m afraid you’re wrong there. For you’ve stolen my heart!” And with that Monty leaned down and planted a kiss on Doodles’ lips. Doodles snaked her arms around his neck and pulled him closer.

You smiled. They made such a cute couple. But you felt a little pang in your chest. You unconsciously touched the (F/C) stone rose on your silver necklace. You wished that you had someone who would hold you like that.

Rin looked over at you.

“Hey. You okay?” he asked. You looked over at him with his stunning eyes and smiled somewhat sadly.

“Yeah. I’m just tired.” You lied. Had his eyes always been that bright? You shook your head slightly to clear you thoughts. Suddenly, you had an idea.

“Hey lovebirds!” You cupped your hands to your mouth and yelled, “Get a room!” You grinned as the love birds separated and Doodles muttered something rude about your mother under her breath.

“You’re just jealous ______! If you want to yell at us get a boyfriend first!” Doodles yelled back. Monty grinned and gently put an arm around Doodles.
You grinned and shook your head in exasperation, all your sadness gone. It didn’t take much for your friends to cheer you up.

“Alright then. I’m jealous and I need to get a boyfriend. Now could we please go to this mysterious place that you just won’t tell me where it is?” You asked grinning.

“Fine, but first” Doodles paused dramatically for effect, “I Call Shotgun!” She shouted as she yanked open Da Beast’s shotgun door and leapt inside. Monty burst out into laughter as he raced around the hood and jumped into the driver’s seat.

“No Fair!” you shouted as you sprinted towards the car. Rin laughed and took off after you.

You reached the car and pulled open the door with Rin right behind you.

“Look out!” Rin didn’t have time to stop when you opened the door, and so he ended up tripping over his own feet and slamming into you, knocking you both into the car.

You twisted as you fell and ended up falling on your back, with Rin on top of you.

“Are you okay back there _____?” Doodles turned around in her seat and looked into the back.

“Yes.” You squeaked. Rin groaned and opened his eyes. Your faces were less than a foot from each other.

“I-I’m so sorry!” Rin stuttered as he rushed to push himself. Your cheeks flamed and you could feel Doodles’ eyes on you.

“It’s f-fine.” You managed to squeak out. Doodles let out a snicker and whispered something in Monty’s ear.

“Here” Rin offered you his hand. You could tell that your face was as bright as a cherry as he helped you up.

“Thanks.” You said quickly. But you were surprised when Rin didn’t let go immediately after helping you up.

“______, I-I really like you.” Rin said. Your eyes widened. Rin looked at you with his lightning colored eyes, and then he looked at the floor.

“__-_____, would you-would you be my girlfriend?” Rin managed to ask. You looked at him, eyes wide.

“You want me to be, your girlfriend?” You asked, disbelieving. Rin nodded. Your heart began to sing.

“Rin Okamura, I would be honored to be your girlfriend.” You said.
And with that, you kissed Rin.

For a moment, you two just kissed. And then, Doodles had to ruin the moment.

“Yes!” Doodles crowed, “Told you so!” You and Rin broke your kiss and glared at Doodles for a moment.

“What?” Doodles asked, grinning happily. Finally, after a moment of glowering at her, you smiled.

“Oh nothing.” You said. Thinking back on it, Doodles had been right. There was so much more to life than you would ever know. And that was perfectly fine with you.
