Liam had heard of this Blaze guy before. Word had it the shiny ponyta was the fastest around. That sounded like a challenge. And Liam loved challenges.

Blaze wasn't too hard to find, he was parading around pokemon village, strutting and peacocking, his ego inflated due to his numerous wins. Liam hoped that perhaps this race might bring this overly confident ponyta back down to earth. He approached the youngster and was about to challenge him, when Liam noticed something slip around the back of Blaze's neck. It was a brief glimpse, but Liam could tell, the ponyta was hiding a quick claw necklace in his fiery mane. Ah-ha! So we've got ourselves a little cheater here do we? Well, two can play that game~ Liam thought to himself mischievously. Again, the sylveon approached to ponyta with a smug smirk on his face.

"Are you the 'infamous Blaze', by any chance?" He asked rather nonchalantly. Instantly the shiny ponyta got the biggest shit-eating grin on his face as he cockily replied, "The one and only! Why, you lookin' for a race?"

"Well, if you do insist, a race it is." Liam replied, almost equally as cocky. He trotted easily to the starting line, waiting for Blaze to join him. The track went all the way around pokemon village, and to beat Blaze, Liam had to finish at least one lap before him. Just as the signal was about to be given to start, Liam turned to Blaze and used Disarming Voice to say, "I know they say you're fast, but I don't think you can handle what I'm packing~" Liam watched with enjoyment as his attack had the intended affect; it stunned and embarrassed Blaze long enough for Liam to get a good head start on him in the race. This proved to be the deciding factor in Liam's win against Blaze, because after the ponyta had lost that much ground to Liam, he was unable to gain it back.

After Liam won the race, Blaze came up to him, looking sheepish. "Hey, uh...good race you know? You were a lot faster than I was expecting." The ponyta looked down and shuffled his hooves for a moment before continuing. "You know, I'm actually not as fast as I made myself out to be...I've been using a quick claw charm to make myself faster. I was cheating..." Blaze flushed in shame at his actions for a while before Liam spoke.

"I know you were cheating. Before I asked you to race I saw the charm slip behind your mane. I thought that maybe I'd teach you a little lesson in humility." Blaze looked shocked for a moment before laughing.

"Really? Wow, you got me good then. Here, I've learned my lesson, I don't want to have this anymore. You can keep it." Blaze reached around his mane and handed Liam the quick claw charm that he had been hiding. Liam took the charm and was about to leave, when he turned around to say one last thing.

"Hey Blaze, a little bit of advice to keep in mind---Everyone likes to go fast, but without technique, what's the point?"
