I get this  imgur.com/a/bIS3cn5 when ever i click on a hidden part. I take it it's not added in the free game yet and saving it for the full game.

Slacker28 In reply to ??? [2019-08-23 23:40:42 +0000 UTC]

Love this picture book.

A few issues.
1. not obvious which file I need to click to play
2. when I hit skip and there is no dialogue option it immediately goes to the end and I don't have the option to go back and have to start over.

I am a programmer so I know there are going to be bugs in the prototype so just letting you know, NOT criticizing you.  This is amazing but I would not advertise this as a game but a pick your own adventure story, just my opinion.
Again love your work.

openhighhat In reply to Slacker28 [2019-08-24 15:03:51 +0000 UTC]

What's funny is I've not actually played the release. I just use the interface to test it so I didn't know that. Assumed it would just be a .exe

In the options you can change how skip works. By default it should skip to next choice.

I really am unsure what to call it. There's definitely game elements but cyoa comic is accurate.

Just curious but, given it's a zip file, (I keep forgetting how to deal with these), how would I go about "activating" the game or starting it up after-download?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

openhighhat In reply to Kovu96 [2019-08-23 23:19:22 +0000 UTC]

Download winrar. Then you can extract it and run it.

If winrar doesn't work then 7zip will.

Extract the files and then find the measuring_up_free.exe

I see three I think, what app should I use to execute the .exe file? (Sorry if this is annoying for you.)

openhighhat In reply to Kovu96 [2019-08-23 23:25:28 +0000 UTC]

It's self running. So if should just start. Though if you're using a Mac it won't. I'll get a Mac version tomorrow.

Sorry this review is pretty far moved from when I said I'd get to it
Nonetheless here it is

As a choose your own adventure comic this does really well. For me I'm looking at this by three qualifications, that of story, quality of the images and the choices offered or paths I guess.
As far as the story goes I really like it. It's nothing too complicated, sweet, simple and straight to the point, a good setup for this particular scenario. Meghan is a delight, both in design and from what this free edition showed of her personality. The choices she made were pretty consistent and I really enjoyed her. The player character (reader character?), who I'll refer to simply as You, was standard a bit bland but the point wasn't for him necessarily to be a character but a surrogate stand in to which he served his purpose in the story pretty well. Things I'd hope to see  in the final edition (knowing the final edition is pretty much already done), not much, just an organic continuation. I'd like to see how this scenario evolves into what we see in the teasers.

As far as quality goes, probably the best of the three qualifications. This is where Measuring Up truly stands out. It looks fantastic. The character designs are very suitable for their respective roles (I have a weakness for redheads). Everything about the images brings the situation to life. The colors of the lab pop really well and are very vibrant. Nothing ever looks flat or boring to look at. The sizeplay at work is also amazing. The sense of scale that is portrayed the further down you go is simply breathtaking and goodness, the details. Everything from small character imperfections to the details on Meghan's fingerprints are beyond impressive and not only showcase your talent but especially how far you've come in that area (not that detail was ever a problem for you). Very impressive on a technical and practical level. The rendering looks good, nothing ever looks like it's clipping and some of the images are so precise if you play them through at a faster speed it practically looks animated. Top notch craftsmanship. Things I'd hope to see in the final edition, not much more. It looks fantastic as is so I just want to see more.

And lastly we come to the paths. I'm taking a guess I'm pretty sure has been confirmed in saying that the paths that cannot be accessed at this time have actually not been included as to be saved for the future release and that works. Don't want to give away all the goodies, want to give people something to look forward to. As such the paths we do have are diverse enough to be satisfying. I was a big fan of the smaller paths, few inches to near micro, and thought they were handled pretty well. The mini narrative you had going made each of them believable and plausible. There didn't really seem to be any leaps in logic or things just kind of happening. It would have great to have gotten out of the lab but as previously stated I believe that is being held for the final release. So things I'd hope to see in the final edition, just more diversity in path selection. Within reason of the story I'd like to see some wild choices that take place outside the lab and give us some room to explore and play around with this new
size.

So all in all I really enjoyed Measuring Up. I'd give it 4.5 out of 5 stars and that's just for this being free content. After playing (reading?) I really wanted to write a review because I thought the work was superbly excellent and very well done. I'm constantly impressed with the new techniques you learn as you push more and more boundaries. I can't wait to see what you make in the future and look forward to the full version of Measuring Up. Thanks for giving us a tease with this free version

First of all thanks for taking the time to write this review. I know it can take time to collect your thoughts and write them down so I appreciate that.

This CYOA is sort of a test bed for future projects. I wanted to test out how it could be done and to learn so I went with a very basic story. Nothing grand but fun. It's also why I went with the flat player character. In future when I do it again I want to try out full blown story telling this way.

I like scene details. I like things to look real. I'm lucky to have talented friends like Ethos-X who makes ultra large close up textures and let me use them.

Every scene gets post work too so it makes them pop a little more and the lighting stand out.

I would have liked to have had more paths in the free version but I also had to do the intro which took a lot of images. I couldn't give all of it away. Plus I had to write it which has been time consuming! There's a crazy amount more in the full version. I went overboard.

Thanks again for the review and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Awesome, have you ever thought of doing a story with characters from different stories in one world. People seem to be very happy with the free version of this. It might be interesting to do something like this in the future with your already established popular characters.
