I've never really done the cosplay thing, except perhaps Goggles Pizanno with the big white WWI aviator's scarf and motorcycle goggles in my open-topped Porsche (the one that was lost in a fire). I've played D&D but never in costume.

He used to do the news on SNL, I like him

I look forward to reading your book

Well, I don't usually play D&D in costume, but I've dressed up as my characters for other things, like the Renaissance festival and various parties.

Yeah, you can read my book if I ever finish it. I keep hitting roadblocks. I've been working on and off on it since I was eight years old and it still isn't finished. Or hardly even started.

Just seems to me that nerds have always been social outcasts. It never used to be this bad with the defensive before.

Maybe the pop-culture "nerd" and all that crap associated with the big bang theory has put real nerds on their guard.

Well, firstly, most male nerds complain that there are few female nerds at the events.  The booth bunnies are rarely nerds themselves (there are exceptions) and many of those in the skimpy cosplay ARE there for attention more than the event itself.  So to change your analogy, it would be like being stranded on an island in the middle of the ocean and complaining that there's nothing to drink.  After all, you can't drink salt water.

Granted there are some who complain when inappropriate or label people improperly, and to those, yes, I agree, stop.  But that doesn't mean all the complaints are invalid.

Secondly, it usually isn't the the male nerds who accuse some of the women about being attention whores, it's usually other women.  And it's usually the few women there that ARE nerds.

I don't agree with that analysis completely.

The analogy was used because its implied salt water is useless due to the fact we can't drink it, and its merely a joke said by a crazy masked mercenary.

That and as a routine con goer, I've seen way more guys make sly and rude comments about women  (especially those with Facebook pages) then women. Yeah of course many women who don't receive the same attention as others will be bitter and jealous, but I'd say just as many if not more guys make comments.
