I would actually say that both have caused a lot of noise, it's just that regarding the Government spying on everyone many feel powerless to do something whereas institutional racism is something that people can grasp and create noise about. The government spying on people the way they are now is a more relatively new implementation but racism has been around since God knows when. It's more embedded in our minds.
People who resist the status quo and are fighting for equality created a lot of noise regarding the Zimmerman case (as we all should have!), and those who like the status quo and want Whites to keep on being in the majority and an unequal system were on Zimmerman's side. Some might not agree with my second statement but honestly, that's what it comes down to.

Genocide means many people, one person died in a case where there were literally only a handful of witnesses. You can't compare something that is objectively and 100% injustice to something that is perceived to be injustice and perceived by many others to be just.

When I mean American I'm referring to the Americans, the people who inhabited America before the Europeans came to ransack the place, eradicate the American population and brought African slaves as filler. Not the "Americans" in the USA.

I batted an eye way back when Bush and Co. were spouting all they were about the Patriot Act! Honestly, it's not surprising to me, so no, I don't bat an eye now. I find it horrible that people didn't get this message back when Bush was still president.
As for Zimmerman - he caused his own fate. Then, now and whatever it will be in the future. He was told by the law enforcement (911) that he is not needed to follow Trayvon Martin. He did. He's the instigator in all of this. Everything happened because of him. So, yes, I am angry with the verdict. I accept it, but don't like it.

It's not illegal to follow someone. And a 911 dispatcher is not law enforcement. Regardless of what happened, a wanna-be thug tried to be "hard" and kick this guy's ass, not knowing he had a gun, he pulled it out in self defense and shot him dead. You wanna act like a thug, then die like one. Plain and simple. Why anyone would defend this wanna-be thug is beyond me.
But why was this 17 year old troublemaker even out in the middle of the night in the first place!!! Why is no one questioning the parents?!?!?! You know they had no idea/ didn't care where he was. If I was out that late when I was 17, my mom would have kicked my ass. It's called being a parent, something people don't know how to do anymore, especially considering he's had drug charges in the past.
