This tutorial was a big help Made me see all the things I was getting wrong in my coloured pics. Big thank you for it.

P.S. I see you use Prismacolor pencils, how recent is that set? Because I hear that their newer ones are awful due to their extremely fragile cores.

I'm glad it was helpful to you and that's just the way I use them, maybe it's not the best, but is the best way I've found to do it.
These colors were bought almost 2 years ago, I haven't tried a new set yet, so I don't know if that's trueΒ

Well, in all fairness that only applies to their box of 150 pencils. Its no surprise that a number of them would shatter in transport and such but for Β£113 ($120 or so) a box you expect a little care as well as bang for your buck.

I think it also depends of where were they made, I have a set of 12 made in MΓ©xico, and a set of 72 made in USA, and the ones made on USA have better quality, they blend together more easily, so maybe also where you buy them makes a big difference

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MakoData In reply to Opheroth [2014-09-03 19:36:05 +0000 UTC]

Huh, it turns out they use wax in their cores and that the pencils can be easily toughened up by microwaving them for a few seconds till you're happy with the hardness. ^.^ There is a way to fix everything I guess.

If that's the case I don't think that would be a problem at all ^^

^^ ok... scanned -->Β sta.sh/07sp82riy4b

at Β first i wanst sure what to do with the white color pencil on the purple part.

Β so when one colors with the white color and blends, is it the same way as the shading sections? i get the circling as you color part. but is it like slowly blending each section until it is smooth? sorry if im confusing you.

Β

the red part, i went through it slowly and slowly blended it. it turned out good.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Opheroth In reply to ZephyrLightningheart [2013-09-13 20:42:13 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it's the same as the shaded section, and it's getting good the only suggestion here, is the paper quality, that's important to get better results too, I can see some "white holes" on the colored parts, wich seems to be mainly due the paper, also a better quality colored pencils help a bit, but the paper is more important. I use a kind of paper called "Opalina" here in MΓ©xico, but I don't know the name in English TT.TT and it's a very smooth paper, so as you color on it, there are very less "white holes"

And finally, the white color helps blend, but also depends on how your colors blends together, some of them blend easily, and so the white blends, some doesn't blend, so the white color does it harder to blend.

Hope I helped you

ZephyrLightningheart In reply to Opheroth [2013-09-14 14:09:18 +0000 UTC]

The colored pencils im using are crayola kind, pro-art water color pencils (i assume they are. they have this paintbrush symbol on the side) and some other brand i dont know the name of.

The paper quality is sketchbook paper but its "lightly textured". Maybe thats why theres all these white spaces.

Opheroth In reply to ZephyrLightningheart [2013-09-14 17:35:45 +0000 UTC]

I remembre using Crayola colored pencils, but I'm not sure if they were Mexican version or if they were a specific version of them, but they didn't blended together very well. But for what you say about the paper, it seems that's the problem, I reccomend you to try on a different paper

ZephyrLightningheart In reply to Opheroth [2013-09-19 14:02:45 +0000 UTC]

thank you! i shall try buying the opaline one or at least a paper made for color penicls and blending. im sure i can find something in the art n crafts store.
