OKAY SO I know some of you are probably like "Why did Sonic lose so badly???" and my answer to that is bad writing I wanted to tie things up really quick before issue 4 came out because we kinda need Sonic in there for plot reasons :3Another reason would be because if you notice, Portal kinda just hammers on sensitive areas when he does hit Sonic. Mostly on the back or the stomach. A lot of falling into the ground at 100 mph is kind of impossible to cope with in the middle of a fight (yeah, even for Sonic, you saw Forces, Generations and Black Knight).
However, my main reason for a total knock out--is because Portal is just a smaller Time Eater. The Time Eater just flattened Sonic... and himself... with one smash and probably put him out of commission for a short time. We don't really know because the emeralds showed up so soon. BUT YEAH Portal is an OP little sh*t and I don't really care to change that unless he uses an inhibitor/emotions.
