This image represents simple to me in the form of a ready made. Matches are an insignificant object that is often taken for granted. I have not been to a house that doesnt have a box of matches, and yet no one takes note of how significant they are in day to day use. 50 pence and the flick of a wrist never gave so much.

Beautiful photo. As you said in your comment above, the simple composition and colours focus you on the matches.
The above (negative space especially) make this into a conceptual photograph too imho

Do you study art? Do you know what ready mades are?
I rate this and the light bulb photograph very highly. They are much more than still life shots. I loom at them and think about wasted energy and consumerism.

Thanks Pete
Yes, i did touch on the subject at A-level and my foundation year. I actually did the lightbulb one becasue of the ammount of lightbulbs we get through in our house which are then just thrown away. I watched this programme on discovery, i think it was called how its made, and thought that it was amazing how so much goes into this object we use day to day with not much care and then throw away.

Thats what I like about Duchamps ready made idea. The way it makes you stop and consider an object in more ways than just its every day mundane function.

Yeh i had tried to do something like this before, no particular theme to it just objects i take for granted. I had watched One Hour Photo and really liked the idea, but it didnt really work out.
I want to get a bit more of a formality between the photos, and i prefer this matches one. I think it has enough negative space to focus on the object and the lack of colour and size makes it feel insignificant.
