Wow!
Great curve work! I find those to be brutal. I can see how plastic oval templates could be used for some of it, but that giant arc with the hand rails going around the top of the wall is just beautiful! What tools did you use to get that so clean?

thx for the interest. this particular piece was done before i learned sketchup. yea curves are tricky. i use ellipse templates, adjustable curves, french curves to get em right. unfortunately there's no fast way to do em. i had discovered that paths in PS can be useful for dialing in the right ellipse in perspective though. prior to that i had to just do em the hard way, like with patience, trial and error... i usually do the rough layouts digitally now, even though i might clean up in pencil drafting, as was the case for this piece. i did the tonal stuff in photoshop. ultimately, a lot of back and forth between traditional and digital media. each medium offers different strengths and weaknesses i guess.

Ah. So blood and sweat then are the tools you used. No surprise, given how well done it is!
Thanks for sharing your process. You've got me all inspired to try a few new approaches on my own stuff!
Isn't this forum awesome? Ideas fly around and intermix and it keeps me excited about getting to work each day.
Cheers again!
Love your work!
