Since he was an infant, he never met his parents, family, or relatives. Wolf monsters are assumed to be one of the strongest of the Royal Guard, and are also assumed that they are deceased from the war before the barrier was erected. He was the only wolf monster in his bloodline that's left. He knew no one else who's the same as his kind. He also has a fair amount of secrets he wishes not to share. Alone, he lived his life only watching in secrecy on the Royal Dreemurr Family. The Royal Guard was inactive at the time, so he had his advantages to sneak in the royalty's castle, sneaking in whenever Toriel, the Queen of the Underground, had to teach her lessons to her son. He puts more of his focus on the two children. Asriel and Chara. He watched them since they met each other, until the time they went across the barrier and returned. He was there when Asriel and Chara died. But still his presence wasn't known to the entire Underground. Not a single monster knows he exists. Not even the King or the Queen of the Underground. He lived hiding in the shadows of the town Snowdin, hoping no one would notice him being the only one of his kind. He would come to Grillby's whenever he can. With each human that had gone through the Underground, he observed all of them as they walk through their journey while memorizing the conditions of all the locations in the Underground. Until the 7th human came, Frisk. Grey sensed something strong in her, which is determination. He tries to follow her, but another monster follows her first through the woods of Snowdin. Still hiding, he saw the monster's face. The skeleton named Sans. Grey knew Sans when he spied in Snowdin, getting to know its residents and the area. He somehow doubts that his presence is still hidden, he thought that Sans has really good sense of detection. And if he was detected, he would be too exposed to everyone.

He follows the pair until they reach the Last Corridor. Of course, he stops his observation of the human there. Sans leaves, and Grey stays. As Frisk's final battle commences, he turns unconscious, but saw a glimpse of Asriel's face with grown horns and black marks. He wakes up noticing that the barrier was gone. Everyone, too, is gone. By the time he arrives to the Surface, he passed out. He was kidnapped by a small group of professional and ruthless mercenaries. He was trained by them, and snaps almost turning into a megalomaniac which had him kill almost all of the mercenaries. He earns his scar on his face from what's left of the mercenaries. Escaping, Grey returns to Mt. Ebott. He took shelter nearby the exit of the barrier, but still keeps his distance to avoid detection. He knew it was a good time to reveal himself to everyone, but he wasn't prepared yet. Several weeks pass, he became known, but not like he thought he would be. All those years he spent hiding from nothing. He was offered a job as a substitute body guard for the officials in the Embassy of the Kingdom of Monsters. He thought to himself that the job would suit him well, so he accepted. Grey uses everything he had learned from the mercenaries and his additional training from the Embassy. He swore to protect whatever or whoever is entrusted to him with his life.
