Description Katina ...

11-11-08 EDIT

I cropped out the top of the tank wall ...

I usually like some perspective in my pictures - usually the water but in this case it was the tank wall ... just to see how HIGH Katina (or any of the whales) can jump ...

But ... I think for the asthetics of seeing just an amazingly athletic whale in the air right above you, this cropped one looks better ...

I'm pretty sure with this cropped version, we can get the sense that Katina's bow here is huge !!!

*** A big Thank You to *incrediblethings for the suggestion

And Thank You to all for all your kind comments and favourites !

Like everyone else; angle is to die for! Kudos to you for being brave enough to get it!
And as if the angle wasn't enough, there's also awesome water droplets coming right at you. *love*

That should make for a GREAT picture !

But that shot angle idea came from Bubblywums ... she's already used it and her shots of Ike are AWESOME !

Can't wait to see yours ....

I would love to see this with the glass cropped out
d'ya know, I always thought about trying to get a shot like this, but I never sat low enough. But just seeing this confirms my suspicions that it would have made an amazing photo! I love the millions of droplets; especially how the ones nearer the top seem quite sharp.
And strangely I love the stadium flukes being in the background; not sure why. God, this amazing!
Do you mind if I print it off in nice glossy paper to go on my wall?

Thank you so much !

I always like my pictures to have some perspective. Usually it's the water surface for where the whale is coming from and going to ...

I left the top of the tank wall in this picture so you can see how high Katina jumped and how far away from the camera she is ...

Thanks again !

I LOVE this angle!!! Although I'm sure you're going to hear that a lot about this shot
How on earth did you get this shot without getting soaked?!? lol I actually like the bit of set that is in there, as backgrounds go, it's the best it could have been!

Thank you so much !

I did get a little wet, but not too bad - you can see the water drops coming at me in the picture.

Yea, I think it's the best background I could hope for - short of getting in the water and having Katina jump over me and my camera ... but I don't think the park has that interaction program on their schedule

Thanks again !

You're very welcome!
I'd try something like that with my waterproof camera (it's a pretty good little camera, nothing like my Nikon, but quite good for a point and shoot) but the shutter tends to be a tad slow... you're braver than I am! I just got my digital SLR so I'm still a little paranoid about getting it wet
It's a shame they don't have something like that! It'd be amazing! lol

Try wrapping a plastic bag from the gift shop around the Nikon and most of the lens so that just the front of the lens is uncovered ...

Shoot Ike's kicker from in front of him - up close ! (shot idea from Bubblywums)

I'd love to see that shot ! ..... But I accept NO liability for my suggestion

That is an absolutely fantastic angle! It's too bad it wasn't just sky in the background though! I've never seen an angle like this before, great job!

Thank you so much !

I looked at every angle when I was setting this shot up and there is just NO way to get a whale in the air (even high flying Katina) against only the sky without a part of the set in the picture ... and I had a GREAT sky that day too ...

Oh well, I'll still take it

Thanks again !
