Autumn, Year 753 of the New Age,
Glenmore, in the Glenwood,
Featuring Iandu and Cadeyrn

It wasn't true. It couldn't be.

Iandu stared with wide eyes at his grim father, shaking his head slowly in mute disbelief.

Mama couldn't be gone. She was Mama. No doubt she'd be back soon, smiling and laughing at having tricked both her mate and her son.

She'd come back.

She had to come back.

But no pale gold doe came stepping through the gaps in the trees, and no emotion crossed his father's carefully expressionless face.

Iandu knew that look. That was the look his father had when something was wrong, and he was trying to pretend all was well.

But there was no reason for that look. Because Mama was fine. And she'd be back.

The world blurred around him, and it was at this point he heard his father draw in a heavy breath, the sound seeming to rattle through the older male's chest. Iandu felt his own breath catch in his chest, before it was let out in a rush as he felt his father drag him closer into a rough hug. Iandu stood limply, his still face pressed into Eadwig's furred chest as he tried to figure out what he was feeling. Dragging in a painful breath, the grey colt felt a sob tear out from him as he realised that he could smell Mama mixed in with Father's scent.

Unable to stop himself, Iandu ripped himself away from Eadwig's grip, his gangly, growing frame lending assistance to his escape attempt. His father's dark, blurred form stood frozen in shock before Iandu turned and darted off into the treeline, needing to get away from his father, from the truth, before either caught up with him.

He didn't know how long he ran for, however it seemed some part of him had subconsciously traced a path as, when he finally slowed to a stop, he found himself in a small glade he and Mama had often visited together to graze. Looking blankly at a nearby copse of trees, Iandu felt his knees give out beneath him, sending him down into the thick grass beneath him.

He'd just... wait. Here. For Mama. She'd know to find him here. This was their place, and she would know.

She would.... come...

Iandu waited throughout the night, shivering alone amongst the trees as he hid and waited for his mother. He felt his stomach grumble discontentedly, however he could not make himself eat, even surrounded by lush grass as he was.

Perking up as he heard the rustle of movement, Iandu turned quickly to look with wide, hopeful eyes towards the sound.

But it wasn't Mama. It wasn't even anyone he knew.

Drooping once more, Iandu turned his face away and curled up into a tight ball, trying to block out the world around him. At that point, he did not -- could not -- bring himself to care about the presence of the large, dark stranger.

Iandu tensed up as he heard grass crunching under heavy hooves. Then, quite unexpectedly, a heavy warmth settled against his side. The stag said nothing, though Iandu felt the weight of the stranger's gaze on the back of his head. Closing his eyes, Iandu hunched down further as he felt the first tear slip down his cheek.

He couldn't let this stranger see him cry. Father would be so embarassed.

Lost in his own haze of anguish, Iandu didn't notice the tail that carefully curled around him, tucking in closer in a hesitant hold as he didn't react.

Together, the two lay in silence, each lost to their own thoughts, till their father came to find them.

Cad is 9 here, while Iandu is around 3.

The way I see it, Cadeyrn knew of his younger brother's birth, however he and his mother never approached the grey colt or his lady mother. Despite Cad knowing of Iandu's existence, however, he had never actually met the runty little colt in person till then.

As for Iandu, he either did not know he had an older brother, or he abstractly knew an older brother existed, but never saw him. So essentially, this was their first meeting ;u;

And probably the only time Cad!hugs were ever given -- albeit reluctantly xDDD
