Description Itheris snorted softly and nipped playfully as the tiny creature fluttered around his head, the soft orange fur tickling his nose as she passed by.

It had been a week now, since she had been brought to him, and though he had been a bit confused at first, she had quickly become a fixture at his side. However in the entirety of the week, they had not once tried to fly the way she whispered they could. Though the idea charmed Itheris immensely, he couldn't quite bring himself to trust all of himself to an unknown creature just like that.

However she had seen his mind, and he had seen hers - the gentle, soft, absent plains of half thoughts borne by a simple existence - and he now knew he no longer had reason to hesitate; had never actually had a reason to hesitate.

So today, for the first time, they would fly.

Itheris whickered softly to the Lilya, calling her to him - a call she responded to immediately. Turning and angling his back to her, he waited as she settled into place, her soft coos soothing him as she reached her hidden tendrils out, piercing his skin imperceptibly. It had been a shock at first, however the energy drain was so subtle it felt mostly like the weight of a rider upon his back - a comfortable presence that slowly tired him as he went through his exercises.

This time, she did not detach immediately after she had taken her fill. Instead, she used the energy to extend her wings beyond their actual size, pushing them to a span that would support not just her light body, but his too. They grey stallion waited patiently as she did so, only moving once he felt the gentle nudge from the Lilya at the edges of his mind.

Beginning with a slow trot, he warmed his muscles up as his companion flapped her - their - wings experimentally, testing out the new weight. The wings were not his to move - the responsibility to keep them afloat was not his. Flying was not an act easily learned by those not born into it, after all. However while the Lilya controlled the wing muscles, she kept their minds tied together, so that she could respond to his whims in movement and direction.

Once they were used to moving together, Itheris picked up his pace, carefully monitoring his breathing and taking a measure of comfort from the simple, uncomplicated mind of the Lilya. As his speed picked up, she began to move their wings, adjusting them as necessary and reacting to wind currents in a way he never would have been able to.

Finally breaking into his fastest gallop, the grey stallion let out a sound that was equal parts shock and exhilaration as he felt his hooves leave the ground sooner than he thought they would. Carefully lifting them up into a relatively aerodynamic pose, he grinned as he felt the wind in a way he never had been able to before.

Closing his eyes, he let out a breathless laugh and shook his mane out before cracking his eyes open once more as he felt the Lilya gently prompt his opinion on where they should go.

'Upwards. Towards the sun.' He thought back, enjoying the gentle amusement that filtered back across the link as the Lilya altered their flight path, pushing them up towards the clouds.

Lookit dat Itheris he's so jolly. And your creativity astounds me- you created a whole another being to work as wings instead of using a potion or a mutation or whatever. Kudos to you, overlord of imagination. *bow*

I'm..... close to tears. Flying, the mere thought of it, has always been able to..... evoke a deep emotional response. If that makes any sense.

This.... I felt like I was right there with Itheris....

Oh I'm so so so glad you read it and liked it, and I'm absolutely humbled by how touched you were 8'D

And I definitely get it - I have a very similar response to space and the sky <3 Just the thought of being able to see it all... *maudlin sigh*

Yessss, join us in drawing floofers! I've missed your art of them :3

And yessssss, exactly. Space is more my preoccupation than general sunny skies. Whenever I'm out at night, I can't help but just stare up and imagine what it must be like to be up there. One of the main reasons I get so hung up on sci-fis; it's not the plots so much as the idea of space travel xD;
