Elijah smiled and took in a deep, slow breath of the crisp evening air, enjoying the chance to wind down after the busy day.

It was fun working at a stable again - especially one where his cousins Jace and Rae were - but he'd never worked at a stable as big as SPaVES before, so it was taking awhile to get used to the hectic schedule. Some days he felt like curling up and collapsing in a corner, but all in all, it was worth it.

Mostly because of the beautiful mare currently laying next to him, the warmth of her body a comfort at against his back. Shortly after the death of his friends in the freak accident at his old college, he had been sent to SPaVES to recover, as he had started to lash out and cause trouble back home. At first, nothing had gotten through to him, until one day he had accompanied Jason and Elaina to Timber Ridge, while they were getting Icarus checked out.

There, an inexplicable feeling had led him to a small white filly standing in the centre of a large field. Having nothing else to do, he had reached over the fence and called the filly, holding his hand out to pet her. The moment his hand made contact with the fragile little filly's pure white coat, colour immediately began to spread, flooding her coat with faint hints of a pattern.

When Jason and Elaina returned, they found him sitting against the fence, cuddling the small white filly to his chest, and after some negotiation, they left with a new member of SPaVES.

Shaking himself out of the memory, Eli smiled and reached over to hold Genie's dark face, as the mare looked at him curiously.

Petting the mare, Eli returned to his book, marveling at how the acquisition of a young horse turned his life around.
