Prunus mahalebThe tree is cultivated for a spice obtained from the seeds inside the cherry stones.
The seeds have a fragrant smell and have a taste comparable to bitter almonds with cherry notes.
The tree is native in the Mediterranean region, Iran and parts of central Asia.
It is adjudged to be native in northwestern Europe or at least it is naturalized there.
This one was found in the foothills of the French Alps.

I live in the French Alps. I don't no anybody who is sick
but there have been a few cases reported and our hospitals are overwelmed.
I am working at home.

Thankfully there aren't many reported cases here about.
I'm definitely thankful for that. I'm not sure if the local hospitals are over loaded, but I'm sure they're ready if need be.
