It's here, everyone! The first segment of "Oriana of the Multiverse"! This took me soooo much longer than I expected, but I'm super proud of how it turned out. The story I wrote for the episode has over 1600 words aswell, so I hope everyone likes it as much as I did! With all that said, lets get this party started!

Synopsis: “Oriana feels left out for never having been able to use magic.”

Episode Overview
Oriana opens her eyes, her vision cloudy from sleep. She blinks a few times to adjust to the bright daylight invading her bedroom. As she sat up, it dawned on her. It was her 14th birthday today. In the past, the 14th birthday of a Butterfly family member would’ve been a big deal. With her mother Star and great-great-great-something grandmother Eclipsa ruling over Mewni together, Oriana was the heir to the throne (alongside her cousin Meteora). It was the day a princess would inherit the wand, be able to use magic and learn spells! Except...

There was no magic.

Against her will, Oriana forced herself to get up and get dressed for the occasion. Wearing her usual, but still formal enough, floral dress, she combed her hair and hurried downstairs before she’d miss breakfast.

Pushing the heavy doors to the dining hall open, Oriana was greeted with a familiar sight. “Ori, there you are, sweetie! Come sit over here! We have to partaaaay!!”, her mother’s loud voice was the first thing she heard, as the blonde-haired Queen waved enthusiastically, until she was eventually shushed by Oriana’s father, Marco. Oriana couldn’t help but smile at her family, maybe this day wouldn’t be so bad.
Sitting down in between Star and Eclipsa, Oriana realized someone was missing. “Where’s Rigel?”, she questioned, her eyes searching across the room for her big brother, but alas, he was nowhere to be found. “He went to get more food! Again... For the 3rd time.”, Eclipsa explained. Oriana rolled her eyes, OFCOURSE that’s what he was doing. “I don’t know how he does it! It’s like that boy’s a bottomless pit!”, Star exclaimed in disbelief. Oriana chuckled, he really was. It wasn’t long before the kitchen door slammed open and a very excitable Rigel entered with a plate LOADED with food. Eggs, bacon, sandwiches, you name it and he was probably carrying it.

After, the quite hectic, breakfast, Oriana made her way out of the castle. With her parents, Eclipsa and Globgor returning to their royal duties, Oriana was going to have the entertain herself. She was barely out of the door as she heard a familiar voice calling out to her. “Oooooriiiiiii! Wait up a sec!”. Oriana turned around and was pretty much tackled to the floor by Rigel. “Rigel! Watch it! I was WALKING there!”, she protested, but to no avail, he wasn’t listening as he started rambling almost immediately. “Don’t give me that look! It’s your birthday, you can’t just leave! We need to celebrate! We can invite our friends— and- we can get snacks! And you need to dress up in something festive, not that dress you wear almost every day! I can do your hair aswell while we’re at it! Oh, and-“

“Rigel.”
“We could go somewhere! Like the arcade, or the pool, wait no, it’s too cold for the pool... Uhhh, how about-“
“Rigel.”
“The park! We can go to the park and picnic, or barbecue! Or is it too cold for that too? Then the arcade it is! Unless-“
“RIGEL!”

He shut up almost immediately, surprised at Oriana’s sudden outburst. Oriana sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose before turning around and continuing to walk away from the castle. “Ori? What’s the matter?”, his voice sounded concerned now and Oriana felt a spark of guilt. “It’s your birthday, right? Aren’t you happy?” Oriana turned to face him, but cast her gaze downward shortly after, not being able to maintain eye contact. “I’m sorry I reacted that way, Rigel... I’m just... feeling a bit on edge today. I just want to be alone for a bit.”, she mumbled, almost incoherent. Rigel seemed to have picked up the hint, however, and he nodded. His face broke into a smile again, and Oriana raised an eyebrow. “It’s cool, Ori! You just... do your thing! We can celebrate later!”, he exclaimed, having gained back his usual enthusiasm. Oriana didn’t miss the gleam of disappointment and concern in his eyes, though.

Oriana blinked slowly as her eyes scanned the area. The main part of Mewni... Earth... Mewnearth? (Whatever it was called!) was always full of life. Humans, mewmen, monsters, they were all among eachother in one big crowd. Oriana’s train of thought was stopped by some nearby commotion. Following the noise, she noticed the crosswalk. Oriana watched in amusement, as the crowd of humans, mewmen and monsters crossed the road in such a chaos, Discord would be jealous. What caught her attention the most, however, was one struggling citizen among the crowd.

“Ow! Hey- Watch it, bonehead!”

As Oriana’s poor, trampled friend stumbled out of the crowd, she cast her gaze upward, coming eye to eye with Oriana herself, who still looked very amused by the whole ordeal. “Looks like you were in a bit of a pickle there, Fudge.”. The half-lizard girl rolled her eyes in annoyance. “The nerve of some people! Don’t they know who I am?”. Oriana chuckled at her friend’s noticeable annoyance, as Fudge straightened her back and stared at her with an almost unnervingly serious expression on her face. Oriana could feel the uncertainty creeping up her back. “What’s that face for? You’re looking at me like I just offended your great ancestors or something?!”. Fudge was unable to keep up the facade of burst into laughter. “Sorry, sorry! I was going to ask you what you were doing here, I guess I got too into it!”. Oriana rolled her eyes to feign annoyance, but she couldn’t help but smile. Regaining her composure, Fudge continued “It’s your birthday, right? I was actually on my way to the castle, I kinda got you a gift and everything.” Oriana looked surprised, “You got me a gift? Didn’t I say that gifts weren’t necessary?!”. Fudge started gesturing frantically, as she stammered “I know, I know! But it just reminded me of you! I practically had no choice but to get it! If I didn’t, I’d feel bad forever!”. Oriana shook her head, laughing. Whatever was she supposed to do with a friend like this.

“Well then, lets see it!”
“On the middle of the sidewalk? Yeah, hard pass there, buddy.”
“But you-“
“No buts! You’re getting it once we’re back at the castle!”

Oriana entered her room and extended her arms. “Alright, give it to me!”. Fudge raised an eyebrow “Aren’t you greedy?” Oriana grimaced and flopped onto her back. “You’re the worst, you know that?” It was quiet for a bit, and before Oriana got the chance to check why it was so quiet, a wrapped box was launched into her face.

“Ow, what was that for?!”
“Being greedy.”
“Tsk.”

Unwrapping the box with lightning speed, Oriana’s face lit up. “Where’d you get this?! I thought these were all taken away after magic disappeared?” Oriana lifted the heavy green book from it’s wrappings,the shiny cover reading in fancy letters: “The Ancient Spells of Mewni” Fudge nodded “They were, it cost me a lung.” “Did- did it actually?”. Fudge laughed and shook her head “Obviously not, stupid. You’re too gullible.”

After waving Fudge goodbye, Oriana took another look at the cover of her newly prized possession. She carefully laid the book down on her bedside table, making a mental note to herself to start reading it as soon as she could. As she was about to leave her room, Oriana felt a wave of disappointment wash over her, but she shook it off of her and turned to the staircase.

Oriana sat down carefully on the roof of the castle, trying not to slip and possibly fall to her doom. She came here almost every night. If there was anything that interested her besides magic, it was the universe beyond her world. Gazing up at the sky absentmindedly, she almost didn’t hear the door to the roof behind her open. She whipped her head around, startled by the sudden noise, but relaxed as soon as she noticed it was just Rigel. He had that same concerned look on his face again, the one that made her feel bad, but he smiled as he made eye contact with her. Oriana smiled back and turned back to the sky as Rigel took a seat next to her. It was quiet for a bit, but he spoke up eventually. “Tell me what’s bothering you.” Oriana was surprised by his serious tone of voice. Oriana was trying to think of how to word her sentence for a bit, before she finally spoke. “Rigel, why did we have to be born in a world with no magic...?” Rigel seemed confused as he was trying to find words to respond. Oriana continued before he was able to get a word in. “Our parents, grandparents and everyone before that was born in an age where magic was the norm. They had all these amazing spells and abilities... What about us? We don’t have anything at all!” Oriana exclaimed, frustrated with the situation. Rigel cast his eyes to the floor, but looked back up at his sister shortly after, his usual smile plastered on his face. “Magic was dangerous, Ori. So many people got hurt because of it. Without magic, everyone can live equally.” he explained. It didn’t sound condescending or like he was trying to correct her. Instead, his voice was quiet and soothing. Oriana knew he had a point, a really good point aswell. It didn’t change the fact she was sad that she would never be able to do the things her ancestors did. Rigel cast his gaze up to the sky and spoke again.

“We live in a world of equality now, it’s better this way.”
