Description so went ahead and drew this, the whole time i was planning on making it a complete pic, then i realized i have no clue how to do backgrounds lol


so have a random creature, and do me a fav and critique the shading and shit. i dont even know

This is absolutely beautiful!

The lighting is perfect; the yellowy tinge on the fur gives the appearance of natural lighting, and despite the lack of background, you managed to make it appear as if he was purposefully floating in nothing. Like a dream.... or perhaps a nightmare?

The texture of the fur also aids the floaty appearance, because although is has the necessary direction, the long looseness gives the creature a flowing, soft look.

For technique and impact, 5 stars. I have seen this type of creature before, so 4 stars for originality, and vision also gets 4 stars because, as you yourself mentioned, the background wasn't thought through. Overall an awesome art piece!

I've seen some really similar ones. Honestly have no idea what the heck they are, but I saw one in a comic. I believe his name was Oktober~ www.smackjeeves.com/comicprofi…

Around deviant art I've also seen these things that I think are called "skull cats", which are literally cats with skull faces or white masks.

I had also faved an art piece a long time ago about a girl playing hide and seek with a creature like this, but it seems the artist put the deviation in storage...

None are exactly like yours, but they remind me of yours

No problem! And I don't think this was a case of stealing; you just happened to draw a critter that looks similar to others.  It happens all the time Animals with bone masks are getting really popular for some reason.

I think the shading makes it look very realistic and black background always looks very dramatic. I hope that you try to give it a new background though. 

I am not sure if you mean what kind of background you have in mind when you say complete pic. Do you thin about a detailed background like a forest or another type of setting or do you think of just a simple background with gradient colors and such?

Actually, I like the way it fades into the darkness. Maybe an indication of background, like a hint of moonlight on a distant hill or tree line. But I think you do have something cool here.

I think it looks great, but you might want to add hoofs or claws on the feet. Terrific job on the fur and shading

Thanks lol.  seeing as the fur like this was one ginormous accident that didnt turn out at all how it was supposed to, it's nice to here that the final result, while a mistake, still looked good lol

Um the time is a little difficult. Like you'd have to take away the three or four hours I spent trying to find a decent fur tutorial, and then the other few hours I spent trying out different backgrounds and stuff lol

So while making it took like a good eight hours, the actual thing probably took like 2 lol


XD it's hard right? Like how do you even sketch em out I don't even know lol

well that was a very nice mistake xD how was it suppose to look like anyways? lol. but 

yeah that's what kills yeah going through millions of tutorials and all that crap then to come out and you realize that you cant even do it...

i just dont the patience to do fur :/

then you try to find tutorials for backgrounds and you either get really lost or their all for paint tool sai

and when i sketch backgrounds out its just so, flat looking? i dunno its hard though...
