Description
Went through a lot of trouble trying to apply the Rule of Cool of the Oriverse to Mistmane, mostly because Mistmane was already very cool with her magic dragon and all. My first idea was to make her more water themed, and a priestess instead of a sorcerer. That version of her kind of just turned into Pony!Kokomi. Tried again a little later, but with her normie colors, and as a kirin, but I didn't like that either.

Sooooo now she's an umbrum. Umbran?

The dealio here is half the pillars are "Light" (Starswirl, Flash Magnus and Rockhoof) while the other half is "Dark" (Mistmane, Somnambula and Meadowbrook). I see it as Stygian not caring for alignment when he was putting the Pillars together, himself being the alicorn prince of a place with very negative connotations. Starswirl would probably the only one remotely bothered by it, because of his thing with Grogar.

The Umbrum being trapped beneath the light of the Crystal Empire is still a thing, just not all Umbrum now. In all likelihood, it's probably just Rabia and her followers that are sealed away there.

Mistmane things!
I still kind of want to go with the priestess angle instead of her being a sorceress. Like, she reveres some kind of benevolent, "sacred darkness" or something similar. Maybe a good-guy counterpart to Shade, whom Rabia's clan worships.
She does a lot less actual spellcrafting than Starswirl but her execution of spells is supremely graceful.
Her flower's timeless beauty is forever preserved in magical, shadowy amber. Her fellow shrine maidens take care of it after she disappears with the rest of the Pillars.
Still rocking the grandma look, just depicted young here for prettiness. I imagine that, a lot like with her dragon, she can summon a projection of her younger self to fight alongside her.
