Very nicely animated indeed.
I'd go as far as to say that this is even better than the majority of the Mario Sprites that actually make it into the games.
I'm a little curious as to how long you spent on this one cycle and how long the "Real" mario sprite animators spend on theirs.
Obviously they have more experience, etc.. but still.

Yo, I'm gonna br Making playable chars for an Engine called Beats of Rage, based on Sega's streets of Rage.
If you give'em fighting moves(pretty much like the ones in any Super Smash bros. game) I'll make a char out of'em. Who knows, someone might actually make a Mod with these sprites, cause that animation is off the chain Man!

Umm... Is it just me, or is he swinging his arms backwards..?
Isn't he supposed to swing them FORWARD, like in all Mario games..?

I absolutely agree with you, a new Mario graphically, but old-style in gameplay; it'd be nice if they did that for Sonic the Hedgehog too... I'm sick of the crummy games Sonic Team has been coming out with over the past several years. At least Mario Galaxy was adequately redeeming for Nintendo after Mario Sunshine flopped...
As to your animation, your sprite is excellent! Great color scheme and detail for such a small sprite!
