Description This is the Merrow, a predatory fish from the seed world Gorgaias descended from the Angler aka Monkfish/Sea-devils (Lophius sp)

A number of Lophiiformes were seeded onto Gorgaias during the early days and have diversified into many forms, including deep-sea species that over time became more pelagic. The Angler was a Lophiiforme already adapted to shallow waters and with few other saltwater fish in the vast oceans of the planet, it was able to fill many niches. The most fearsome of these is without a doubt the Merrow, oceanic terrors that fill a niche similar to a grouper or shark. The above species can grow up to 4.2 meters long (14 feet). Merrow have wide bodies with barrel-shaped chest and a very large maw. The teeth are small, but this fish usually swallows its prey whole; however, a large and sharp body ridge on the upper jaw acts similar to an axes blade and can tear up a victim that this predator is attempting to swallow, so it will sometimes go after prey that is seemingly to big to gulp down.

Merrow much like grouper fish, usually stalk coastal areas and favor reefs or sea beds with many rocky crevices. They will however, sometimes hunt in open water. They can move quickly in short bursts thanks to a long, powerful tail and fins. The pectoral fins are very well developed and have a degree of flexibility to them not seen in similar fish. By adjusting the fins direction (ie flapping from side to side or spreading the pectoral fins outward), they can swim more efficiently in different environments. Merrow maneuver well around rocky areas despite their large size, and they have been observed using their tails as a whip to stun smaller fish before they swallow them.
