Description
UPDATE: Improved and higher quality image uploadedThe Scylle is from a speculative-evolution world seeded with "ugly/scary/creepy/weird" animals known as Gorgaias (formerly Hell). It is a descendant of the goblin shark.
Scylle live in the ocean floor in fairly deep waters. They are sluggish animals that have adapted to hunting on the sea bed. The body has flattened and the long proboscis has become modified as a lure of sorts. It has bioluminescent pores that can attract curious fish in the darkness. Usually the Scylle buries itslelf under sand or between debris and waits for small fish to swim by. The mouth has moved to high up on the face, and when an investigating fish approaches the Scylle captures it by rapidly shooting out its jaws much like its ancient ancestor does here on Earth; a 2 m Scylle can shoot its jaws nearly 60 cm far. A Scylle will also bury itself under sand to avoid enemies, its proboscis resembling a sponge or coral, but few if any large animals bother it anyways.
Next up will by a surprise.
