Description
This is OC's design is a collaboration with thebadgerfoxdraws as the title suggests. While I did draw this entire thing myself, a major reference that I used for this design was a reference sheet that thebadgerfoxdraws Β drew, which is ironically based off of one that I drew. The original one is trash admittedly, but while I really love how this turned out, I am really not sure if my final design, as much effort as it took and as novel as the technique and style here is overall, is better than the reference sheet used for this one. In any case, the actual choice of design elements that went into this final design I would say is a fair balance between both of us.For her biography and personality, she is quirky and socially awkward but still kind-hearted. She tries to make people happy all the time, and while she generally succeeds, she does put her foot in her mouth sometimes. In addition, while she may seem cheery and optimistic, she is actually pretty calm and not that energetic at all. She honestly tries to embrace and accentuate her quirky side by dressing as a clown, even when she isn't working. She also tend to be rather childish in demeanor and innocence, and enjoys playing with games and toys that people would typically think are fitting for young children. People generally tend to know her rather easily for this. They generally also know her for her bubbly and quirky personality, though she does sometimes admit that this is an act that she puts for herself and others to feel better. She can be a bit too deep and sometimes feels bad because of her own internal psyche, which varies often from matching her external personality to being a dark and sometimes nihilistic side that she has trouble dealing with and tries to suppress. Still, very few people know about this side because she is such an excellent actress and even makes a rather huge living with her job as a clown. In fact, she decided to become a clown mainly as an attempt to suppress this side of her.Β
I am still new to the new shading style that I decided for this image, so feedback is greatly appreciated. Also, I know that I can be inconsistent with how harsh or soft my critiques are, but I do not mind receiving harsh critiques if you feel like you have a lot to say. I welcome the feedback.
EDIT: I made the face's and hands'outline darker and more noticeable due to a recommendation from ZennQuill. Thank you, compadre!

visually, this is a very interesting piece- i like it!
very detailed and the colours work well together.
the things you need to improve on:
right hand- it is twisted outwards, which isn't a natural position.
hair- i see the two braids, but i don't see any other hair. there should be bangs etc. visible.
waist/hips- unless this is your style, the waist-hip ratio seems a little off to me.
however, you also had some very good points!
the slippers- one is winking and the other is smiling, that's so cute!
the colours- all of them are featured across the whole body, which helps unite the piece.
overall, good work!

Thank you for your critique. Apparently, there were two design choices that were somewhat bizarre now that you bring them up, with her gloves having weird lines around the fingers making the back of her right hand look like the front. Now that I think about it, why did I do that? Also, I was honestly debating how I should do her hair. Per a recommendation from thebadgerfoxdraws, her hair was taken fromΒ Pippi LangstrΓΈmpe and I was trying to emulate that. Still, I feel like your critique is helpful, so thank you!

Hello! I'm here from ProjectComment to offer you a critique!
First of all, I must say that this is really vibrant! They're a good set of colours, as they're not too neon and not so pastel as it seems like you can project her personality of being "quirky" and "cheerful" through them.Β The design of her face looks very well.
I will try not to re-state what has already been said by the commenters below. One of the points I'd like to cover is of the shading. As you said this is a new style so you probably had some time trying to figure it out. Personally I like these kinds of soft shading as I actually do it too, but shading can be used to identify the materials (soft VS hard). The choices of the soft shading on the slipper is nice, but on her head accessory (cream coloured) it's rather faint and also "clashes" with the way you shaded it. As seen here , you can see that "hardness" of the shade gives a sharper touch. The way you coloured the accessory seems to suggest it has a solid figure, but the shading style otherwise. using a darker shade or hue could help, as well as mixing the types of shading or decrease the "faintness" of the outline (I colour wholly with airbrush, so that's also an issue for me). Unless her face is cloth, I also think a harder shading on there would look better, as it is also very hard to identify where the shading is.
In short, the point is to use a different type of shading or brush opacity/spread/outline for different materials.
As a side to shading, I would also like to note on the inconsistency of light source positioning. Her sleeves suggested the light source is from above, while her skirt says diagonally top right (our right), legs from behind, shining through between her legs and the hat itself shows conflicting light sources. The only suggestion I can give is to pin point a certain light source to start off with and shade off darker/further parts as shading.
Lastly materials! Most of the items look rather stiff, like her skirt where it should go around her hips/waist it seems to very slightly flare out? Design? It doesn't really seem like it. The skirt should go around her waist and ensure it can actually be worn snugly by her. Here are several references as I'm not sure how to explain it:

Β i.pinimg.com/originals/42/99/3β¦
Β i.pinimg.com/originals/37/02/aβ¦
This issue also goes on to the accessories on the legs. They look rather odd though curiously interesting. The orange upper zig-zag piece extends from her leg a LOT, and it seems to be sticking to her left of instead going around it. It should look like it has a cylindrical form. These maybe can help?

That's all I have to say! I hope you find this critique helpful, and have a nice day!

Thank you! I felt like it would suit her personality and history to have so many different colors, and I tried to include as many different ones as possible while still keeping it fairly reasonable (assuming I know what "reasonable" means). Thank you in any case!
