Description These creatures show a similar behavior to lampreys and live their life mainly as parasite, attaching themselves to much bigger creatures in the sea. The bottom side of them is armed with small claws to help them to keep hold onto their prey.

Several gas filled bladders decorate their body (orange in color). If they feel threatened, they are able to empty all of those instantly, gaining an insane speed boost for a short while.

Beautiful and adorable sea creature! That cute one reminds me of Subnautica!

Thank you, so glad you like it!Β Β

I love Subnautica, it was quite a great game indeedΒ Β And it's quite funny actually.. I think someone else mentioned on another page I should submit this concept to the game, I guess it really does have a Subnautica-like lookΒ Β Β

Yeah! Subnautica it's such a beautiful sci-fi game that you should love! Too bad that a cool creature designer artist it's already working for this game and not to mention, he had created such an awesome Subnautica creatures for the new chapter as a early access! You should see it if you want to. I think it was Abiogenisis who it's doing creature designs for this game Subnautica Below Zero:Β www.deviantart.com/abiogenisis (Just to make it clear, it's very SPOILER! If you wanna wait, I recommend it to play it once they launch the early access)

Well, I already played Subnautica and totally loved it

That feeling it manages to generate when you explore stuff in a deep sea cave was just unreal - I really was constantly afraid that I might never find the way back, let alone manage to get by all those big scary creatures lurking there

I actually already watch Abiogenisi, he's such an amazing artist with brilliant creature concepts, really love his stuff!

I get scared when a Reaper Leviathan is after me! Lol! When I played the first time, I remember that I went pretty far out, when all the sudden I wasn’t prepared to go in the territory, and that’s what happen I got freak out! XD And I died only once! And this what I learn my lesson. Never approach a dangerous leviathan within safe distance, always carry a Stun riffle.

And yeah, this artist he so amazingly awesome!

Well, yes. Definitely. I didn't even know there is such creature in the water, since I started to play with pretty much no spoilers at all. Gosh. I didn't even had something fast with me, and then this creature appeared out of nowhere!
I also only died once to it, but I always was terrified when I had to cross its territory

Damn yeah! I'll bet that the new chapter Below Zero they'll way more terrified leviathans than the main ones. You just had to wait and when they launch it. I can't wait to play it!

Aww the colors! Blue and red are amazing togehter :3 I really like the idea about the speed boost, just imagine there is a swarm of them and something frightens them and suddenly they all blooeeeewwww away x'D Oh my god it's late, my brain o.o

Thank you so much!
Yeah, they work quite well together! I also love combinations with black: red-black / blue-black and yellow-black are all so great, too bad black is so difficult to draw, haha.
Would be quite confusing for an attacker... "Zaaap" and all your food is gone

True that x'D
It's interesting - my mind made up an exact sound for their speed boost^^

Thank you so much!
Glad you think the design looks interesting! I'm particularly happy how the colors turned out for this one, was quite a struggle at first

They look very interesting. I kinda can imagine those creatures way bigger with people living in them. I don't know why, maybe those round, veiny orange things look like windows to me. The teeth look dangerous as if they are able to spread a dicease or something like that.

Thanks!
Interesting idea - and it would also work quite well I think! For this version, these creatures would be huge and maybe used as a transport vehicle underwater... Maybe by using electronics to change their brain accordingly, so they swim where everyone wants to go. Actually, that would be kind of sad, to misuse such a mighty creature like this. But I still somehow love the concept. Thanks for bringing it up!

You're most welcome
Well now that you say it, it would resemble a lot how the Silt Strider from the Elder Scrolls. Their backs are cut open to get to their nerves - this is how they "operate" those creatures. Sad, but if you could tame them, just like your Xanothl, that would be a way better opportunity. Like riding a horse or something like that.
You're welcome, it just popped into my head and I thought I should bring it up

Hah, I remember the Silt Striders - always loved the idea behind them and they really fitted so well into the quite wondrous world of Morrowind. Yeah, that would be another possibility - quite mean one as well. ^^
Actually, I imagine them being so big, that people could be transported in the gas filled bladders, maybe exchanging the gas with air or by building structures which contain breathable air. The membrane maybe could be modified so far that it is more transparent, so people can enjoy the environment they move through.
The behavior of the Xanothl would be adjusted so far, that it wouldn't release any gas for faster movements anymore.

I would prefer the more kind version. And now I imagine how one of them accidently releases the gas and it speeds away with all the passengers in it XD Like in those cartoons where you get pressed into your seat because you're driving too fast.
This would be really awesome and impressive, because I can think that Xanothl can swim pretty deep and you as passenger would be able to see all those underwater wonders!

Yep, that surely would be quite a sight to behold
