Character: Cynis Aimiee, Air-Aspected Dragon-Blooded Sorceress
Media: Photoshop CS5 with Wacom Graphire Tablet
Inspired by: One of Alphonse Mucha's "Job" posters

*silverwinglie recently invited me to one of her Exalted RPs, so I had to kind of throw together a character in haste. So I decided that I wanted to play a Smarty-pants Know-it-All character. So upon learning the system I instantly grabbed the Air Aspect and created Aimiee- a take on my most used forum handle WanderingAimlessly (many people call me Aimie). The motif I was going for was a fantasy Geisha type. A learned beautiful woman who can beguile foes with words or magic.

Background:

Cynis Aimiee knew her path in life was going to be a hard one. But a wise teacher had once told her that nothing in life is worth having if you did not fight for it.

When she told the family that she wished to study sorcery, the air of displeasure was apparent in their faces.

And that made her smile.

She was easily smarter than the whole lot of them, which didn’t mean much, so the path she chose, really shouldn’t have surprised them as much. Except the earlier stated fact that they were all idiots.

Aimiee was born into the house of a rather severe wood aspect who was nothing more than a mid-level paper pusher for house Cynis and dim-witted to boot. Her mother was nothing worth noting either. Needless to say her early years were quite dull. She excelled at her schoolwork, as she loved to study. Books were her only escape from an otherwise boring existence. Given her smarts and her parent’s lack of funds to send her on wards she was given a small position under her father, which she did well in. But then to everyone’s surprise she exalted taking on the aspect of air.

The dullards hardly knew what to do with her now, except to raise her in position- slightly.

That which of course, did nothing for her already souring mood. You see, Aimiee’s anger was that of the constantly building pressure of an approaching storm front. Subtitle, unless you knew how to read the signs, but then out of nowhere she would erupt.

It was one such instance that ushered in a drastic change in luck for Aimiee. Her secretary had it coming. She was the kind of servant that just made everyone cringe- Aimiee in particular, and when the Air aspect could no longer put up with the girl’s ineptitude she suddenly exploded under the weight of the constrictions of her station, causing a rather comical implosion of everything around her.

Although this situation was most embarrassing for Aimiee, it earned her the attention of house matron Cynis Belar. The matron instantly saw her for the potential she had and thus was able to transplant the Air Aspect into the house of a similarly aspected aunt who was a known sorceress of high repute.

Thus Aimiee’s true education began. She now not only had a home where she felt as if she was residing with those of equal intelligence to her own, but she now had a mentor in her aunt. She was taught a myriad of things from the beginnings of sorcery to dance, music, social etiquette, and the arts of high conversation. Then through her aunt’s graces she was enrolled in the Heptogram and for the first time in her life was given a true challenge- that which she rose to meet with ever fiber of her being.

Though her studies were taxing, she still carved out small parcels of time to attend family functions. Her beautiful looks and elegant mannerisms earned her much praise in social circles despite her otherwise poor upbringing. With her aunt pulling all the right social strings for her, the circumstances of her low birth were of little concern. Most just considered her to be her aunt’s well breed daughter and thought little of where she came from. There were now plenty of suitors for her to choose from, and she was fully capable of entertaining them all with subtle flirting and a graceful dance.

It all worked perfectly for Aimiee. She could rest while she studied during the day and party at night- the late hours were of no concern to her. At home she could often be found in her private rooms lounging in bed surrounded by books and her pet cat Lilithian. Occasionally powerful bursts of energy would issue from her rooms, but they quickly became of no concern to the staff, in fact they were seen as a normal occurrence for the sorceress in training.

Approching her graduation from the Heptogram, her aunt granted her access to her manse and a heartstone as well. Though, the gifts came with a bit of a request. Her aunt wished for her to venture out in the world to gain experience in the ways outside of the realm before she settled into the life of a (hopefully) married woman of the house.

I like this. It might be one of your best. I love what you did with her nails and the pipe.
Something about the way the kimono sits under her right shoulder seems off a little. I feel like the sash is too high- it makes her look unnaturally flat-chested. (Not that she needs to be well-endowed, but with the sash that high and the fabric under her arm so flat and textureless it almost gives the illusion of a man's torso, which I don't think you intended.)
Her neck is just a little thick, and her fingers on the hand holding the pipe are a little off- the third finger in is too thick at the bottom and I think the pinky needs to be moved in a little closer.
Your line work and coloring are always really nice. I wish you'd try to give your pieces some more texture though. It would make them seem less flat and really come to life!
Also, I'm a big fan of Alphonse Mucha too and I love that your style is a revival of art nouveau. That being said it would be nice to see more poses from your own mind not directly based off of his posters.
Just some friendly suggestions! Keep up the good work, girl.
