Second entry forRound 02 : Russia vs Latvia
Theme : sports, games, tournaments.
Finally got a decent internet cafe here! Thank God!
Hehe I always wanted to draw chess-themed illustration.
Now is the perfect time to apply this theme, since we all know Russia is really good at it!Although it's not turned out exactly what I've imagined, and somehow the more I see it, the more I find something strange with the proportions, I'm quite satisfied with the results. ^ ^

Fantastic! The period dress is wonderful, and the outlines add a kind of stylized dignity to the overall image. The proportions may be a little unusual, but I think that works well with this; it reminds me a great deal of medieval woodcut illustrations and tapestries, and the imperfections are very much in the favor of that general style.

Trying to comment with my favs more... So, here goes; This is absolutely gorgeous~ I can't tell you how many times I've referred to Russia's strategies as like playing chess... so to use it with this theme is an A+ idea, in my opinion. On top of that the clothes are so creatively done... and fur. And purple/black, in contrast to Latvia's colors... It really keeps the black and white chess pieces idea while incorporating their sort of... style... per-say.
So yes. \o/ Faving for all around awesome!

This is stunning! I don't even know where to begin. The clothes, the lines, the coloring. Everything is so... epic.

This piece has a very nice composition! I also like the heavy emphasis on the lineart you used which makes it seem like stained glass.
I feel the colour palette you chose is really harmonious and the colours are really rich too! I only don't quite like the outline you used because the checkerboard background shows through it in some parts, which gives a rather distracting variation.
I also like how you drew their boots.

What is with me in falling in love with men in uniforms??? None the less COSSACK uniforms. *DROOLS* Slavic men are the hottest. This pictures is so great in many ways. I love the costumes and the details you put in to them. BTW Latvia looks strangly the most attractive I've ever seen him.

I base the costume on Cossack uniform and some Slavic middle age noble costume, hahaha. Of course, with loads of my own imagination mixed inside. ^ ^
