Red's Story 1A woman blew a whistle. "Enough of that rough-housing, you brats!" Her voice was a bit sharp and coarse, at least when shouted. She grimaced as a few nondescript voices laughed and acquiesced, slowing down the splashing underneath the woman's position.
"God, I pray for the day when I can curse a damn storm on my day job," she muttered, sitting down on a lifeguard tower.
She was Red, twenty years old and her hair was all the explanation one needed about her nickname. It was impressively red, the kind that every so often gets described as 'stop sign hair.' Long and kept in twin-tails for no reason other than 'because,' it made her stand out above her peers and above the people swimming in a pool below.
