Everyone eats it, but nobody respects it here, so no worries.
(There are a few *healthy* New Age alternatives. My kid grew up on
[link]
and I still keep it in the house for when he's home from college.)

Well, nobody respects meatballs in Sweden either, but those who I've discussed the matter with have been appalled when served meatballs in tomato sauce as 'Swedish' in forn parts (Australia I think it was). There are other opinions, but to me what makes meatballs Swedish is the spuds/mash, lingonberry jam and gravy.
Oh! It's got a bunny and everything. There are two varieties in the US shelf in my grocery store and I chose the orange one The rest of the shelf is pancake syrup, root beer, popcorn seasoning, insanely overpriced jerky and really very hot sauce.

This is the sort of thing I think of as Swedish meatballs,
have no idea how authentic it is or isn't. [link]
Australia is a law unto itself.
It does, the bunny is 75% of the appeal!
That's the heart of American food is it? Well well, not so far off from being
a legitimate cross-section. Hershey's Kisses and some Froot Loops cereal would
round it off nicely.

Looks quite OK, but a bit elaborate. For example, any recipe younger than 50 years will probably use 50/50 beef and pork instead of involving veal. And while I've encountered gravy with coffee once or twice, we usually employ brown food coloring instead And the noodles serving tip is a bit too sweeping. It's elbow macaroni or nothing
I usually pan fry meatballs instead of using the oven, but that's more a question of preference and batch size.
Well, there were no Kisses, but I think I saw Hershey's chocolate syrup. And most of Kellogg's crazy cereal have been introduced at one time or another. If Froot Loop weren't sold here up until now, it's probably because the coloring was illegal or something.

It was a hundred years ago that I went vegetarian,
and since I wasn't an adventurous eater before that,
I bet I never did have them. But they don't sound bad at all.
The coloring was illegal...?
The mind boggles...
You'd knock the breakfast cereal industry
on its arse if you made coloring illegal here.
That's un-American, putting health over profit.

Azo dyes, a group of synthetic coloring agents, often used where vivid color is needed, were illegal in Sweden from middle 70s I think to 1999 when EU decided we had to allow them. They were illegal because studies have shown them to increase allergic ailments and asthma and cause behavioral change and possibly cancer.
There are hundreds of others that have always been allowed though

Very forward-thinking of the EU.

yes, the EU grand poobahs probably think they've righted a wrong too, by removing hindrances to commerce such as bans on ads for tobacco and alcohol, aforementioned dyes and government monopoly on drug stores. The EU also wanted to scrap the government monopoly on retail of alcoholic beverages stronger than 3,5% (which has been in place since 1912 or something in order to stop the ever thirsty Swedes from drinking themselves to death) but we somehow managed to keep that one. The other pros of having a state monopoly with a mission to provide booze in as healthy a manner as possible is that there are no wild discount sales of horrible beer and wine like I've seen in other countries.

Being the provincial tunnel-visioned sort of person that I am, I had no idea the EU had
that much jurisdiction over member countries. Sort of sucks, handing over autonomy like that.

Yup, especially since most sensible Swedes liked things the way they were before. Luckily, with some things, like dipping tobacco, we've managed to get exemptions.
One of the ugliest things about EU in my opinion is the extreme bureaucracy. In Sweden, governmental documents are public unless there are very good reasons to keep them secret. In the European Central Bank, every piece of paper is secret for 30 years. To make rules like that, they've planned to do funny business all along, I'd say

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, just possibly..?
How disheartening.
I agree completely, it's sort of like announcing
that there's no reason to look in the closet because
there isn't anything there.

Also, the current government, which is conservative by Swedish measures, but probably quite liberal by US standards, seems to have made it their task to make as many irreversible decisions as possible, such as selling off government-owned corporations (including the Absolut Vodka brand) and as such won't object to very many EU directives (but at least we stand united concerning the dipping tobacco )

So apparently there the same as here, people
either aren't paying attention or they don't care
or they get what they think they want.

Well, from my point of view, nobody got what they wanted except the very rich, who would have gotten it anyway on account of being very rich
