Description  asked me what color the Anthroposaurus was for a 3D model he is working on. Since I had a clear idea of it but it would have been really complicated to explain, I decided to create this color guide instead. The palette includes everything of note: claws, areas of bare skin, eyes and feathers (the final one representing the long iridescent display feathers on the head).

Since Anthroposaurus is supposed to be an extremely human-like troodontid, I envisioned it having evolved on East African savannas, which is why it is coloured much like many small to medium grassland animals from our timeline. Sexual dimorphism isn't covered here, but this individual is colored like a male. The female would have more muted orange skin and dark brown feathers on its head rather than black and iridescent.

Update: If you like this old version of my Dinosauroid, perhas you should take a look at the more recent version.

this seems to be  better way to make one of those than the thing I did. but mine wasn't supposed to be a real evolved dinosaur being "mankind" but more "mankind being a dinosaur"

-------------------------------------
In general, you did an excellent job.
Hands in correct position with opposable thumbs and a long tail to maintain balance with the big head.
I just consider that it should look more naked (as we compare with primates) and the snout completely reduced (coparando our jaw with that of any ape), in fact there exists a rule of proportion of the size of the brain relative to the jaw.
Other than that I guess it will not be so fast like us despite the proportion of our legs.
I hope my contribution helps you.

Thank you.
I don't know that we can apply much at all from primates to maniraptora, whether it be the amount of naked skin (feathers offer better protection against both heat and cold than mammalian fur) or structure of the skull (corvids certainly seem to ignore any "rules" about jaw size). The legs are proportioned first and foremost for endurance, enabling the creature to cover large distances without becoming exhausted, important for a savanna omnivore.

so is that a yes or no?

It's a yes! Fair use means you can use something (or a part of something in any case) without a copyright infringement. At least that's how it works in most civilized countries.

let me guess: it evolved in the same universe as dougal dixons new dinosaurs, alongside the gourmand, and those weird land pterosaurs.

Actually no, those are a bit too old school for me.

I may actually be the only original Spec Project member who has never read Dixon's the New Dinosaurs, because it was never translated to my native language.

Do the females also have iridescent head feathers?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Osmatar In reply to indigomagpie [2017-08-02 22:19:29 +0000 UTC]

It's a gender dimorphic feature normally only found in mature males. Females have shorter brown head feathers.

I think I prefer this to Nemo Ramjet's version. Don't get me wrong, love NR's stuff, but without the beak, this actually looks more dinosaur-like. I also like the reduction of feathers on the arms as well. I imagine full plumage could be something of a hindrance for tool use!
