For my first #Spectember2021 entry I decided to dip my toe in the waters of future evolutions of humanity before explored by Dougal Dixon and Memo Kösemen. Welcome to the far-off future of Post Humanity, where human extinction by the artificial intelligences in the great Progenitor War was just the beginning of human expansion into the universe. Having grown to regret the extinction of their creators, the Preserver AIs spread across the galaxies carrying databases of millions of individual human genomes, in order to recreate the human species on terraformed worlds to grant them another chance to explore their evolutionary potential.

A few extra fun tidbits about the mudcomber man: the species lacks hair follicles altogether and its lungs have merged into a kind of swim bladder to give it a way to control its buoyancy. In addition to sensitive fingers and large eyes, the mudcomber man also has electroreceptive organs for spotting prey that tends to hide under the substrate. Females tend to give birth to twins after a pregnancy lasting only four months. The species has a complex language consisting of sequences of whistles and clicks, and they use various tools for different purposes.
