Believe it or not, this is indeed a unicorn. This is based off an old folk legend my aunt used to tell me, I'll try to summarize it as best as I can. This creature lives in deserts all over the world and goes by many names, the one I was taught is Txankha (Cus-AHN-kha). She has the sleek body of a cheetah, the tail of a fox, deer legs, and a large scoop-like antler. Males have two antlers in a row (like rhino horns). By night, the Txankha leave their cool dens in the sand and use their antlers to dig shallow canals winding through the dunes. These canals stretch for many miles, built up over generations. They connect to the oasis's and bring water to the Txankha dens so the foals can drink. Eventually humans used the same technique of canals to bring water to their fields and grow crops in the desert. To prevent themselves from getting lost, the paths of the canals were etched into the backs of all adults old enough to grow antler(s), thus creating a tigerish pattern in their pelt. During the day, the mother Txankha guards her den and monitors her canal in case of flooding. In more recent stories, there are tales of these creatures digging canals into cities and stealing water from people, which led the kings of these desert cities to order all Txankhas shot. That's how they went extinct. But some say they still say they find traces of sandy canals in the dunes...*insert mysterious sound here*
