Description
Edtertainer over at Tumblr started up a very large and ambitious Final Fantasy Collaboration project where people choose a FF character to draw and do so, resulting in... a lot of FF characters being drawn. Exact details can be seen here: edtertainer.tumblr.com/post/68β¦I was lucky enough to snag Minwu from Final Fantasy II, the only (to my knowledge) male white mage of the series making him a rather unique character. Squeenix dropped the ball not giving us more male white mages, IMO. Minwu is a character I had always kinda wanted to draw, because I loved the character and his design, but never bothered giving it a shot since I didn't see myself as good enough. So this project gave me an excuse to give it a go and I tried reeeeally hard to make this turn out nice. In the end, I'm actually rather happy with the result.

I never really got into any Final Fantasy, but that doesn't stop me from liking this pic.
o_o
I love how INTENSE he is! XD Those hard, piercing eyes, and the hard scowl we see underneath his face, the way he's kinda leaning in towards us in this intimidating way -- and how the wind is blowing his cloak around and how IT DOESN'T PHASE HIM makes him look incredibly intense and badass. I love how strongly that comes through, how VIVIDLY you captured that personality.
I think the colors look great here. They're really bold and vibrant, but muted in a way that fits him really well. I like how you showed how the fabric gets pulled, either by the wind or being tied about his body, and how it has this really believable weight to it.
I like his abs, too. XD How you drew them anyway. They look toned without looking ridiculously muscle-y. There's a good sense of tone and muscle and heft to his figure as a whole.
VERY NICE.

Thank you so much! <3 I tried really hard with this picture for a variety of... reasons. I worried though since I'm not particularly great with the male form or with clothing like this but figured I could give it a shot. And omg I'm glad the abs aren't terrible, LOL. I can never find good tutorials on abs because a lot of the times I hate how other people depict abs. They use a lot of lines and it just looks too busy down there, for my tastes.
The robes nearly didn't come out this good, but I showed my initial "finished" picture to someone and they pointed out what I could do to make it better, and it did in fact make it better. The way the colors ended up coming out was kind of a happy accident. I was working on this image when chatting and screen sharing with a friend, so when I "finished" it I started playing with filters, layer effects, and changing certain options. I brought up the Curves tool and was telling my friend about how "Yeah I have no idea how this works and it doesn't matter how many times it's explained to me, I just... I don't get it." then moved the sliders around randomly and then the picture looked better. And we're like "Uh... k." and went with it. XD

When I've drawn abs in the past, I generally block out the shapes with a small amount of lines, but then I tended to use hatching to flesh them out a bit. But yeah, I liked how you defined them just enough to give him a toned look without going superhero-comic crazy and making them terrifying, bulging -- I-I was trying to think of some comically terrifying word to finish that description but nothing's coming to mind AH CRAP FAIL!
Anyhoo, you're welcome! He really does look great!

Thank you! I'm glad you like it. After Dissidia I figured most would assume the rose is more fitting for Firion but I think it can fit with all members of the rebellion.
