"Zuko, I love you I really do, but…" Katara's voice trailed off.

She was in Zuko's house for one of their private dates again. After she had started to secretly date Zuko she felt horrible when she was around Jet. She turned her gaze to the ground holding her hands to her chest. Zuko tried to reach out to her and offer her some comfort but she pulled away from him tears streaming down her face. He dropped his own gaze to the ground peering away from Katara. He hated to see her in such a state of sadness.

"Katara, I love you so much." Those were the only words that Zuko could form as he reached out to Katara again.

This time she let him embrace her into his chest. She cried into him letting him comfort her. He stroked her hair lightly and kissed the top of her forehead. It seemed like eternity before Katara lifted her head to look at Zuko. The room was warm and so was Zuko as he tightened his grip around her waist. She brushed his ebon hair away from his face and suddenly saw Jet's face there instead. She gasped and jumped away from Zuko. This had happened many times to her but this time it seemed too real to be an illusion.

"Katara what's wrong?" Zuko's voice was filled with concern and worry over her.

She shook her head the tears coming down her dark skinned cheeks faster than before. She couldn't keep doing this. She knew that she had to break it off with Zuko. Katara may love him but Jet was just more important to her than Zuko could ever be. He held a special place in her heart that Zuko-let alone anyone-could replace. She wasn't ready to give up the relationship that she had with Jet.

Sure Katara and Jet had their fights but she missed that. She missed the way that he kissed her in the rain and the way that he loved her. She had to break it off with Zuko before things got out of hand.

"I love you too Zuko but-."

"But what?" Zuko interrupted cupping Katara's face in his hands pulling her close to him.

Suddenly the door was broken down. Katara pushed herself out of Zuko's grasp to see Jet standing in the door way to Zuko's house. Her eyes widened. How long had he been there? How much had he seen?

Jet didn't seem too happy as his fists grabbed his hook swords tighter. "So this is where you have been spending your time Katara. You have been dating Zuko behind my back haven't you?!" he shouted pointing an accusatory hook sword at Katara.

Zuko stepped in front of Katara and pulled out his blades from their holsters. "Back off Jet, I don't want to fight you but you even think about hurting Katara I swear…!" Zuko said brows furrowed.

Both boys were ready to fight over her. She didn't want either of them to get hurt not like this at least.

"Oh don't worry about her Zuko. I would never hurt Katara but you, well, let's say that I'm not above kicking your ass." He replied with a cold smirk.

Then it was too late for Katara to do anything. Zuko and Jet had charged each other and were locked in combat. Jet had always been great with his hook swords but Zuko could fire bend and was certainly not above using it in this fight.

Jet hooked one of his swords around Zuko's ankle and brought him to the ground. Zuko twisted himself in a circle bending fire from his feet. Jet jumped up as it just barely grazed his shoe. Jet gasped and Zuko was back on his feet. They circled each other for a long time before Zuko rushed at Jet. Jet ran out the broken-down door and outside. Katara followed closely behind as the fight continued outside.

Zuko and Jet's swords clashed causing a loud shriek in the cold night air. Their swords tore through the darkness reflecting the moon's light. Their grunts of frustration and struggle filled the quiet night.

Suddenly Zuko was in a water fountain that was nearby. Jet was standing close to it smiling like he had just won something. Katara rushed over to the fountain but it was too late. Zuko had stood up and bended fire right at Jet.

Katara tried to bend the water in time to smoke out the fire but she wasn't fast enough. She watched in horror as the whole scene seemed to go in slow motion. Jet's eyes widened when the fire made contact with his chest, pushing him into the dirt. This time Jet didn't get up, didn't say a word, and didn't do anything. He just laid their limp as a log while Zuko got out of the water breathing heavily. When he strode over to Katara she pushed herself away from him and ran to Jet's side.

"Katara, I-I thought you loved me?" Zuko asked his voice protraying a growl of anger.

Katara ignored him and soon she heard Zuko walk away fuming.

Jet was still breathing but faintly. She could smell burnt flesh and when she saw his wound she wanted to gag. It was deep, and he was losing a lot of blood. The crimson liquid trickled down his side creating a pool by his body. The gash was ugly and had not only cooked flesh but there was too much blood. Katara swiftly bended water to her and tried to heal Jet as much as she could. Tears were running down her face and onto his chest as she focused on him. His hair was still shaggy but he had bags under his eyes and dark circles too, like, he hadn't had any sleep in a long time. Had he stopped sleeping because of her?

She murmured prayers that he would be okay, that by some strange miracle that he would live. She regretted ever having anything to do with Zuko now that she had faced the consequences of her actions.

"Katara…?" Jet's voice was weak but she heard him.

She opened her eyes to see that his were opened slightly and staring at her. She cried even more at the agony his face portrayed. She wanted nothing more than to take all of that pain away from him.

"Shh, please don't cry Katara." He said lifting his hand in pain to her face, caressing her cheek.

"I a-am so s-s-sorry Jet, I never meant to h-h-hurt you." She whispered as she took her hands away from his chest.

There wasn't much that she could have done for him but she had managed to stop the bleeding and hopefully tone down the pain that he was feeling.

"I know, I just wish that we could have held onto what could've been." He said.

Jet's face twisted in pain as Katara watched him pull his hand down in anguish. She had a feeling that what she had done for him wasn't going to be enough.

"Jet I love you more than anything in the world." She said carefully lifting his head off of the ground.

"I love you too Katara." He replied and then their lips touched.

It was the tenderest kiss that Katara had ever had. Passion and love erupted through the kiss as Jet's hand threaded its way into her hair. She put all of her love into the kiss silently begging him to stay with her. She didn't want to hurt him more than he was so she pulled away from him her tears staining his face too.

The light in Jet's eyes was going out though and Katara couldn't do anything about it. She whimpered as Jet gave her one last smile before his eyes slowly closed. She laid his body on the ground as it went lifeless. The tears came down her cheeks faster and heavier. She rested her head on his shoulder crying into his dead body knowing that there was no way to bring him back. She cried because he was dead. She cried because she was a fool. She cried because of what he said. She cried because of the memories. She cried because she couldn't save him in time but, most of all, she cried because she loved him more than she should.
