I doubt Linux would be used. More than likely as windows had the major market share, the education system would choose that. If they didn't, a convenient gift of licences, or a kickback of some sort would deal with the problem. I use windows. I hate windows, but I hate macs more (yes, I have used them too) and last time I tried linux it simply didn't do what I needed. I couldn't be bothered changing now.

yes, I hate computers. I used to be a computer professional - programming, web sites, sys admin etc. I also know too well that it only takes one idiot in power to force every one else to use worthless software.

Computers are still a very powerful tool, even if I hate them. Once I would have been messing around with computers for computer's sake, upgrading, tweaking, und understading everything that was going on. These days, I go to a shop, and buy a box that will do what I need. I'm on a "scrapyard" 266mhz celeron at the moment. It still goes. It is good enough for the web. My 3d stuff is on a quad core that is "as is" from when I bought it.
