_EDIT 11/25/11_People seem to think I hate Trixie and want her to die or something... I don't. Trixie's one of my favorite characters, simply because she's such a brat and that's somehow hilarious to me (maybe comes from growing up with my bratty cousin Amanda). Trixie drowning is supposed to be kind of an after-she-runs-away metaphor for her sinking into depression. That's why her hat and cape aren't on her- she lost them when she ran away. And I was also kind of depressed at the time so... take what you will from that.
Besides, if she was literally drowning, the sea ponies would be there to save her! XD

A combination of feeling pretty depressed and realizing that I don't draw enough canon characters. I also don't draw enough humans.

Mostly it's supposed to be a (cheesy metaphor tiem!) metaphor for her 'sinking' into sadness or whatnot, losing everything (hat, cape) and generally running away afterward. Yes, me and my originality XD
