I see that myself but there is also a kind of resignation in the painting and I suppose a hint of peace - I am not religious myself of course but I appreciate the art that ALL religion inspires and I envy those with "certainty"

I am kind of tentatively planning a trip to Italy. Any suggestions? I am not rich and cannot stay in 5 star hotels but I'm not broke and staying in hostels either. Which cities etc?

Florence is a must, far better than Rome in my opinion and Tuscany has a long history of tourists on "The Grand Tour". Venice of course should be included (too expensive to stay long) and as for Hotels, the internet is pretty good for sorting out accommodation at a price and location that suits. You will love it

My dream is to visit Italy and see all the great works we learned about in my Art History classes. Michelangelo's being at the top of my list.

I have a love of Florence so some might disagree with me but I promise you that there is a warmth in that city and the people are a little more reserved
